Phillies dollar dog night turns into massive food fight
If you don't know much about American sports let me fill you in on one thing that I do know. Most of the cities have rather peaceful fans, even the ones that really really really love their team. There is one city that is an exception to this though and that is any sport team from Philadelphia. They have the distinct honor of being some of the most hated fans in the USA because it has become something of a sport to misbehave at events. Visiting fans have to be protected in some cases because there have been many instances of people being hospitalized simply for wearing a hat of an opposing team.
While this is just normal overseas in sports such as soccer, Philadelphia is really the only place this happens in the USA. Recently, with no one else to turn on / injure, the Philadelphia fans decided to turn on one another and it resulted in many people being thrown out of the game.

Nobody really knows how it got started but there are some rumors where it might have been from two kids that were having a hot dog eating contest and people around them started tossing their hot dogs down to keep the contest going. Then, I guess someone got hit by a flying hot dog and then turned around to return fire, hit someone else, and then it spread like wildfire. Phillies gonna Philly, and they are always looking for a way to turn something good into a fight it seems.
Here's a news clip about it
I don't think it was anything malicious from the start, but from what I have heard about Philly fans, they are always looking to turn something into a fight that doesn't need to be. While some people were likely tossing their hot dogs lightly to the supposed kids in the hot dog eating contest, I am sure there were others that were trying to throw the foil covered dog as hard as possible and hit people in the head with it. That's just the way it works in Philly.
Several fans were ejected from the game and I can only imagine what the decision making process was like in that situation on the part of security seeing as how it was an entire section of the crowd that was taking part in this.
The Phillies management also was I guess kind of forced to issue an apology.
Unfortunately, the small minority of people involved in this situation put our regular fan base in a negative light."
Ha! Your regular fan base already has a very negative light. This just adds more credibility to anyone that ever says that Philadelphia has the worst fans in the USA.
I like hot dogs, especially ball park dogs, so to me it just seems like a waste of perfectly good food.
Burgers would have been more accurate to throw lol. Never been to a sporting event and seen fan trouble and must be missing something on my bucket list.
well i haven't seen it either as it is very rare in USA outside of Philly, which I have only been to once and there was a curfew in order because of fear of rioting after a win or a loss for their home team.
