Playing Catchup -- Actifit Report Card: February 20 - 22, 2025
In honor of Presidents' Day (and our week-long mid-winter break from school), check out this Mount Rushmore meme from Moon Lvnding with some of the biggest names in EDM. I think house music is a very broad category, and these are some of the most legendary names to do it.
I'm also playing a bunch of catch-up today, as I realized I have fallen out of rhythm with my daily actifit posts. Part of the issue is that I've been pretty lazy with my activity during my winter holiday, mostly staying inside my apartment and rolling around in bed.
It is telling that the majority of my steps came right after midnight as we walked home from the taqueria by our subway station on DeKalb Ave. On the other side of the hourly chart, I also got a bunch of steps in the hour leading up to midnight. My partner and I had tickets to Elsewhere to see British rapper and EDM crossover artist Flowdan.
The show was giving weird vibes, as Flowdan and his DJ kept cutting the music when the crowd didn't respond with the words to the hooks of his songs. Clearly, he is used to his UK fans rapping along, but it was also obvious that most of the US fans that came out to see him in Brooklyn weren't familiar with his lyrics. Instead of being a professional and just rapping his verses, he kept trolling the crowd for not bringing the energy to sing along. We paid to hear you perform and dance at the club, not to get dissed by a rapper whose feelings were hurt that people didn't know the words to his songs. Very weird energy.
Friday was my laziest day of the week. I slept in late after binge eating a ton of snacks late Thursday night after getting back from the club. The majority of my steps came from dancing at Elsewhere after midnight. The only other significant activity on Friday came when I stepped out to grab some product from our local fruit stand, Mr. Lemon.
We spent most of the night watching Survivor 43 and eating more Girl Scout Cookies. Shame about those cookies, I never wanted them around our apartment to begin with, but my partner wanted to support her niece by buying some boxes. We should have gifted them all away because I struggle to keep from eating these tasty bits of sugary crap.
Saturday, I finally took a break from the binge eating that had been plaguing me during my holiday week and got back on track with more healthy eating. I made toast and bacon to go along with all the morning EPL soccer action. After watching Chelsea FC throw away an important 1-0 lead on the road to lose 2-1, I snacked on some fresh fruit to keep my sugar craving in check.
For dinner, my partner and I made a 7.15pm reservation at our favorite Michelin-rated local Thai restaurant, Tong. This isn't the first time I've mentioned them in my actifit report since it is our favorite upscale, affordable eatery. We even made our standard order: mangosteen salad, fried rib tips, spicy shrimp noodles, and crab fried rice.
Take a look at that hourly chart. Pretty much all of my Saturday activity happened on the walk to and from dinner, which is about a mile from our apartment. We ended the night by watching a bit more Survivor and getting ready to go out to The Brooklyn Monarch to see Friction and Dirt Monkey play a fun hybrid Drum n Bass + Dubstep show. But we didn't get picked up by the Uber until after midnight, so I'll be back tomorrow with more dancing activity. Until next time...
