VAR takes centre stage again in a forest match that Antony Taylor ref’s again - surprise suprise…

Following the mid week draw against Liverpool Forest we’re looking to get back to winning ways and it should have been a straightforward result. Nothing in the premier league is ever that easy though and Southampton put in a decent performance before Man Utd turned it around in their previous match.

Forest came out the blocks early and capitalised with a first premier league goal for Elliott Anderson with a nicely placed shot into the bottom left corner.

A mistake in the Southampton defence under pressure from Wood let in Callum Hudson-Odoi to fire another one in from the edge of the box.

Southampton came out with a bit more fight in the second half and pulled one back through a big defection over Matz Sels and the VAR check for offside went their way.

Minutes later Forest were looking like being 3 goals back in front but VAR asked Taylor to the monitor and for some unknown reason he managed to rule it out, a decision that seemed to galvanise Southampton and deflate Forest.

With 12 minutes added time announced from somewhere Southampton scored from a corner and the Forest fans were staring the prospect of dropping points from 3-0 up in the face.

Another corner nearly provided an equaliser but for the 2nd game in a row Aina cleared off the line and saved the 3 points.

Luckily poor refereeing didn’t alter the result, perhaps some of the difference between this season and last.

Forest finish the week in joint 2nd place and maintain their challenge for a European place next season.
