The initial aim was for the rich to get entertained by the poor who are mostly slaves even at the expense of their lives.

Boss, I wasn't referring to recent age and the write up wasn't about that. At least movies like gladiators and Spartacus gave us an idea of what people think entertaining sport was centuries ago before things began to improve.
