Posterior a eso, la ultima vez que el conjunto Rossonero afronto unos 8vos de final fue en 2014, quedando eliminados de forma humillante ante al Atletico de Simeone, y ahi, la historia del 7 veces campeón de Europa no se siguió escribiendo. Apenas la pasada campaña el Milan volvía a participar en Champions después de una larga sequía.
Los de Pioli ganaron el Scudetto, e inmediatamente los listones subieron en cuanto a exigencias para la siguiente campaña (que viene siendo esta), esperando, como mínimo, superar la fase de grupos de la Champions. Pues bien, ese objetivo se cumplió, y si bien uno no debe ser conformista, ya que el equipo entro en la zona definitiva de la Champions en la cual es matar o morir, ¿por que no seguir avanzando?
El Enero de los de Pioli fue paupérrimo, pero en Febrero parece haber una notable mejoría en cuanto a efectividad (en defensa y ataque) y confianza se refiere, traduciéndose esto en mejora general del equipo, ganaron por la mínima a un complicado rival como el Torino, y hoy recibieron en casa a los Spurs con la intención de hacer respetar su recinto, cosa que consiguieron de forma exitosa...

Las batallas en el mediocampo se hacian evidentes, Tonali se mostraba con una garra y un desgaste emotivo, y Krunic suplia de forma correcta la baja de Bennacer, por el lado de los de Londres, Sarr se hacia presente con su fisico en esa batalla, Y Skipp en los duelos que salia victorioso intentaba filtrar pases profundos para Kane y Son, aveces, con exito y otras veces, con fracasos.
Leao se hacia un festín por su banda ante el marcaje débil de Emerson y cuando le salia al cruce Romero, lograba salir victorioso el portugués, y Giroud se fajaba con los centrales en el area esperando un centro preciso que no llego.
Lo mas sorprendente fue la increíble actuación de la zaga central, Kjaer salia a marcar a Kane, y aunque el Ingles en algun momento del primer tiempo logro ganar algunos duelos, en el segundo tiempo sencillamente no la vio, y por otro lado el Alemán Thiaw se jugo un autentico partidazo, frenando a Son y a quien se le cruzara en el camino.
Milan tuvo ocasiones para poner el 2 a 0 en el marcador, ocasiones nada despreciables, pero parece que el unico que cabecea bien el equipo de Pioli es Giroud, porque De Ketalaere y Thiaw fallaron solos frente al arco; el equipo de Conte no logro conexiones exitosas y no genero profundidad en el equipo, el partido culmino con victoria por la mínima para el Milan.
