Chess isn't as common as football in Nigeria. It is a game that is just gaining it's popularity amongst Nigerians.
Team Nigeria was founded on December 10, 2008 with a view to promote a supportive and rewarding chess environment, as well as a chance to make friends and have fun.
The Nigerian chess federation is a federal body that over sees the development of chess games in Nigeria.
