Real Madrid vs Club Brugge (2 – 2) - UCL Quick Recap
We are yet again in another Uefa champions league mood, the biggest club football competition. There were a handful of amazing fixtures yesterday, one of them being the Real Madrid vs Club Brugge at the Santiago Bernabeu. The La Liga giant Real Madrid suffered a 3-0 loss in the first champions league fixture of the season against Ligue 1 giant PSG and had to win this game at home to put themselves in a stable situation for the remaining group stage games, however, Real Madrid fluffed as they were only able to earn a comeback draw against Club Brugge at home.
The champions league has always been a competition of surprises, shocking results and various emotions, and the result yesterday at the Santiago Bernabeu was one of those surprising results were no one saw it coming, even though we all know that in football, anything could be possible. In the other fixture yesterday, Bayern Munich trampled on Tottenham at the Tottenham’s stadium 2-7 to make it back to back group stage wins and 6 points in the bag. That’s the beauty of the champions league as we get a chance to watch amazing matches and see some expected and unexpected results.
Real Madrid vs Club Brugge was an interesting fixture as Madrid was clearly the favorites on paper, however, it wasn’t the case on the playing field as Club Brugge who played in a 3-1-4-2 formation, took the shocking 0-2 lead in the first half against the 3 consecutive champions league winners under Zidane who was the same manager who led the Real Madrid team to their champions league record breaking seasons. Real Madrid 4-3-3 set up couldn’t cope with the attacking threats of Club Brugge as they weren’t able to find a solution all through the first half.
A few tactical decisions was made by Zidane in his quest to turn the situation around saw him make a few changes including the goalkeeper who was subbed off in the second half. These tactical decisions proved to be fruitful as Real Madrid finally got a goal back in the 55th minute before leaving it late around the 85th minute to score the all-important equalizing goal to manage a point at home.
2 Goals from Emmanuel Bonaventure and goals from Ramos and Casemiro were enough to end the match in a draw.
I can say Belgian teams performances now are becoming better and better. It's a dangerous position for Real Madrid I can say. If they tilt another match, its all over for them in the Champions league.
Great post!
That's very true, the league has improved a lot and their teams are beginning to show more courage in the champions league.
For Madrid, they have no room for any drop of point as that will mean game over for them if they lose anymore crucial points.
