Women of the Highland Games
This will be my last post about the Scottish Festival that my wife and I went to over the past weekend. It was really a cool experience to finally go to it and we had a great time.
In my previous post, I shared some pictures of the men competing against each other, but now it is time to share some of the women competing in the Caber Toss. While I was there, the women were only competing in this event, but I am sure they competed in the other games that the men competed in because while we were there, we didn't see any men competing in the caber toss.
The caber toss is a pretty cool event where people have to carry a wooden beam that is around 16-20 feet long and weighs between 90 and 150 pounds. The person has to toss the beam and make it land end over end and try to get it to land in the 12 o clock position. Basically you want the pole to flip over one end and try to land perfectly in line with you and not be angled.
These women were beasts and were tossing that thing pretty high in the air so that it would have enough height to flip over. I wish that they had a spot where people could try this game because I wonder if I would be any good at it. I doubt that I would be able to compete against these women that have been doing it for years, but it would be fun to give it a try.
I hope that you enjoyed the pictures that I got during the festival. My wife and I are going to be keeping our eyes open for any other cool events happening this summer. It was great to get out of the house for a while.

We had strongman games in our Town years and years ago, TV crew/cameras etc...
They filmed out on the grounds of the Black Castle 🏰
That would be so cool to see. One of my friends from school competed in strongman competitions in Germany and he was massive. I would love to watch an actual strongman competition and take pictures.
I did the caber toss once on a camping trip…I was the absolute wimpiest one there 🤣🤣🤣

Ufff the truth is that they have a lot of strength, I really couldn't lift that beam.
They were pretty strong. I would have loved to try throwing that thing to see how hard it is.

The strength of these competitors amazes me! Even when I was 30 and really fit, I could barely toss a 100lb bag of fertilizer into a high bed truck... tossing a 150 lb log? I don't think so...
Went to college with this huge dude from Iceland... Oskar was about 6'7" and 350+; saw him lift one end of a mid-sized car clear off the ground and hold it long enough for someone to slide blocks under it... scary!

Damn thats bad ass, the timbers we move around for the retaining wall weigh that much. I cannot imagine throwing them.. haha
I have been impressed with this. I had no idea there was such a competition. And on the other hand, the pictures are great. I really enjoy sports photography.
