June 13, 22: Routine, Teaching, Oculus, TV, and Games
Alright now, my posts the last three or four days seem to have gotten progressively worse. š” I canāt remember the last time I didnāt at least get the skeleton of my post doneā¦oh, wait, yesterday. š±š I totally crashed out as well and broke my āstreakā (which never even got to be official) already. š¢š
I did get a lot done on Sunday. We went grocery shopping and I did another big burn š„ and now all the lathe from upstairs is whoosh, gone. It said āI am upstairs.ā And I said āOh, yeah? I am fire.ā šŖ
I also finally got an invitation to do the KYC on Pi. Honestly, I didnāt like doing it, makes me nervous, but it wasnāt too bad, just an ID (ha, just) and they didnāt ask for any financial information, so thatās alright. It got approved already and not only am I completely set for the transition to Mainnet, I became a KYC validator myself. š Supposed to be able to earn some Pi that way, and I did a couple, but it didnāt go to my Mainnet balance, so weāll have to see.
Not sure I got a chance to mention it yet, but I did decide to start over on the website completely from scratch. Iām already expecting that Iāll regret it in one way or another, but so far, so good.
I did realize that the way Iām setting things up with the an express server backend API that Iāve currently opened up yet another security issueā¦anybody and their brother could just visit the url and write to the dBā¦going to have to go down the rabbit hole of JavaScript Web Tokens or some other sort of additional authentication check. š”
If itās not one thing, itās anotherā¦I wanted to make it so the user didnāt have to log in but only needed to verify active authority when making actions (like dCity), but I need to generate that token at some pointā¦weāll see, might do a new one for every trx, but I think thatās inefficient. Will probably need a CORS filter as well; makes me wannaā cry sometimes, fixing one problem creates five more.
Anyway, I did get a solid start on it already. Took a while to get Node updated and get my VS Code back up to date as well, but once all that was finally running properly, I created the react app for the front end and stripped out the boilerplate and then created the express server on the back end and created the first route. Started building in react-router-dom and creating the navbar as well as started a couple of the components.
Got a seriously long road ahead of me and the CSS is shit and I have to get the database goingā¦hopefully, though, Iām not
going to get fatally stuck this time; in fact, Iām going to start working on Hive I/O right away this time (as soon as I get the dB going).
Despite being pretty badly broken in the morning, I did sleep from about eight until nearly five for only half an hour short on the day. I did crash out for a half an hour or so on Sunday afternoon, so I guess Iām about even?
I chatted for a bit over on Discord and, of course, wanted to shed a few tears when I looked at the crypto markets. š BTC broke down hard, $21k š± and alts said āhold my beer.ā HIVE down twenty percent or so, MATIC, BAL, all my punts are just losing me money harder and harder. 𤬠I suppose Iām not the only one feeling some pain at the moment.
Somehow, though, just doing my morning stuff ate the time and when I snapped back to real life and needed to start working on my post, I was already late getting ready for work. š± Had to cut the post part super short, but I wasnāt that late getting out the door and I got to class with about ten minutes to spare anyway. š
Weāre doing quite well as far as pace and will actually be through the material next class. With exam review next Wednesday, that leaves a whole three hour class wide open! š± Going to move ahead a bit on Monday into the next section; should hopefully give us plenty of time toward the end to take a better look at parametric and polar.
Todayās topic was alternating series and absolute convergence. Relatively easy, actually, and even with a bunch more example practice problems we got out early.
Had a reasonable signal for most of my lunch and I watched some YouTube to kill the time and then headed back in for the second class. Same deal, we ended a bit early, but I got going right about on time after answering some studentsā questions.
Got home slightly earlier than I generally have been and had nearly an hour before Wenche would be due home from work. I genuinely considered sitting down to do some programming, but ultimately didnāt. Jumped into VR and played some Resi 4.
I played a boss fight and I have to say, the hand cannon is seriously OP. š® Only took like three or four shots and the dude was toast, not even a full revolver full. š Made a little more progress beyond that, and I was doing fine, but Twatnugget (the NPC girl I have to babysit) got her ass killed. š¤¬
Wenche was coming in the door then, so I just quit out and she made us some french toast for dinner and then went to meet up with the āgirls clubā (some local women that meet up and chat and stuff).
By that point, though, I also was toast. I put on some Itās Always Sunny in Philadelphia but started to doze off. Quick jumped out of bed and brushed my teeth and stuff, but it wasnāt long after I laid back down that I was out.
Honestly, Iām scared and excited now about working on the website. I know thereās so many issues ahead: even after I have it built and functioning again, thereās the whole deployment to a remote server and getting all that workingā¦still, I kind of like React and I feel like things are hopefully going to work more fluidly than they would have with the original version. I did try to go to lengths to make sure that AJAX updated relevant information without a browser refresh, but even all the navigation and stuff doesnāt require a reload in React. I remember getting really frustrated trying to pass props between components, but thereās new hooks like useState that should help with that. Pretty sure thereās still going to be some frustration there, but hey, thatās programming. Still, it does kind of feel good, like a revitalizationā¦got the desire to work on it, not feeling sick to my stomach like when I thought about it before. š
Zero, minus a Shopping Mall robbery, is twenty? 𤷠Now thatās the kindaā dShitty math I like to see.
Was busy with teaching all day, so just a one mission day on Rising Star to the best of my recollection. Still considering buying some more cards to see if I can juice my growth a bit, but not sure yet and not really all that concerned to be honest. It would be nice to start seeing a little income from playing thisā¦been at it for a while. I suppose I could just sell off the Starbits Iāve made, but not sure Iād really get my timeās worth out of doing that.
Right in the middle of the āwatch the grass grow gameāā¦exactly, literally, what HashKings is most of the time. I guess it does check the āpassiveā box, to a fault.
And on the third day shall youāre plants be as though they were newborn, so that you may observe the true nonlinearity of temporality. š®
I went in in the evening on Splinterlands and claimed my SPS drop, which thankfully remained stable from yesterday. Just staked, as usual, but otherwise no moves. Vouchers are down pretty hard and I donāt have an immediate need for more liquid at the moment.
Didnāt feel like playing at all, though. Coming up on the last day of the season and Iāve made it to Diamond as I usually doā¦I would have had fifty chests at this point, but now I have less than half of that at twenty-one. 𤬠They better be twice as fucking good or Iām probably going to walk away and just rent my cards out.
I donāt know, kindaā fallen out of the habit of doing the Wordles for a while nowā¦
