Dec. 14, 22: Routine, Algebra Final Exam, World Cup, Grading, TV, and Games

Got to sleep around ten thirty last night after class and was up at six this morning. To be honest, my sleep was pretty shallow and I kept waking up thinking about the work I still needed to get done with a deadline looming. I ended up a solid hour and a half short on sleep (and I felt it, but had no choice but to plow through), but it did give me a bit of an early start on the day.

I did the usual morning routine rather quickly and just glanced at the markets. BTC was still up into the seventeen thousands and my alts were up by a couple points across the board. Did a bit of curation and token shifting but almost immediately got to work on my post.

I kinda’ figured I should write the exam first (and I probably should have), but I started procrastinating and figured I should use the time productively, if not for the proper purpose. Once I got the skeleton set and had a few hundred words down I was going to quit, but I didn’t as on a roll and ended up just finishing it out.

Unfortunately, for the second time this week, brofund skipped voting my post. I asked Ray about it, but he didn’t fix it as far as I’m aware and they haven’t been hit manually. 😡 That’s a pretty significant one, so I definitely miss it when it’s not there.

After I got my post set I started to working on writing the exam. Of course, it always takes longer than I estimate, and I packed a lunch to eat on the way instead of taking the time then. I had thought maybe a little over an hour, but all told it was about two and a half! 😨 Still, got it done and emailed to myself and got a quick shower and out the door like twenty minutes later than I had hoped.

Luckily, the drive in wasn’t too bad and I went a bit faster than I usually do and got there with twelve minutes to spare. Had a little trouble getting logged into the computer there, but got my master copy printed and made the copies…they finished at about three minutes to class time. I hit the restroom and got to class right at the bell…cut it wicked close (stress level max)!

While I proctored the exam, I made the key for grading and then started working on getting the grades transferred from ConnectMath to Blackboard to get them done officially (would be a lot easier if I could use the phone but Blackboard won’t give me the full gradebook and ConnectMath won’t load at all, so I have to have parallel windows open on the laptop and try to line them up 😨). Had one student doing their little panic attack and having a crying fit instead of trying to work on the math…asking me if they fail the class if they fail the test and blahdy blahdy…I would have given them extra time since they had an accommodation, but they gave up instead.

I totally understand test anxiety, believe me, but I told the class exactly what questions I’d ask and we did identical examples just with different numbers the class before, so I really don’t have much sympathy.

As expected, a ton of students showed up that I hadn’t seen in weeks to make me dig through their chicken-scratching nonsense and then feel bad that they even have the possibility to pass my class (I think I make passing the class too easy overall 🤔).

There were some students still working when class finished and I gave them an extra ten minutes or so (they really should have been done in about an hour, hour and a half, but it’s always the case that some take the full time) and then headed home.

Got back in time to catch the last five minutes of the Morocco versus France World Cup semi-final. France was up two to zero and while Morocco put up a fight and there were a few chances, it was not to be…so we have Croatia versus Morocco for third place on Saturday and France versus Argentina for the final on Sunday! ⚽️

After I got changed out of my work clothes I immediately started working on grading the exams. So far I’ve gotten the first two pages done and they’ve not been too awesome. The few students who stuck with it and came to class are doing fine, but that’s definitely not the majority. 😭

I worked on the grading until Wenche got home and she made us turkey tacos for dinner. After I’d eaten, I intended to get back to work, but with going full blast since I got up this morning I was pretty much toast. Still have another Calculus review to do for tomorrow and I need to alter one of the questions on the exam…still stress left to go (and more grading to do).

We put on a new Disney show that’s supposed to be some sort of spin off of National Treasure, I guess. The girl power is pretty obvious (but consistent with Disney’s agenda) and it’s kind of boring outside of a couple minutes here and there where she’s actually making progress with the treasure hunt, but not terrible.

After a couple of episodes of that I got ready for bed and we switched over to Superstore until I fell asleep.

Oh, nearly forgot! Wenche got me a new Quest controller for Christmas and it came today. 🥳🤩👍😁 It’s been months since I’ve been able to play anything except Beat Saber or Puzzling Places (games that don’t need the left analog stick)…so hoping that replacing the controller will fix the issue, but I haven’t had a chance to try it out yet. 🤞 Only a couple more days of the end of the semester stress and I have a couple weeks off. REALLY need to get some work done on the website, but, but, new controller…

Ok, at this point dShitty has gone so super shitty that I’m considering ditching this section of my post as well and seeing about sending all the cards over to Solairitas and forgetting about it. I guess in one sense it’s good in that it seems negative stated income actually has a meaning; they just don’t pay anything…I thought the daily SIM income was the whole point of this…guess that means it’s officially pointless. Strictly speaking, I quit “playing” this several “updates” ago but just been sucking it for whatever words it’s worth each day, otherwise fuck it. 🤬

Man! When I went in the site was running insanely slow. Not sure what’s up, but it looked like server issues. Anyway, as is customary on Rising Star, I got seven percent Ego worth of drunk fans, but after five attempts at logging in and waiting for refreshes I got another mission going. Oh, and I got another level, woohoo, nine more to go to unlock the next one. 😡

My Splinterlands rental income reversed course and dropped by a solid thirty cents today to $2.2, but that’s a hell of a lot better than the rest (can you tell I’m getting fed up with the “games” on this chain?!…even getting fed up with not playing this one!! 😛😂).

For the last several weeks the daily rental fee has been around four or five SPS, sometimes lower. For the last several days it’s shot well above seven…I should be just about set to pull the liquid out, but the fees have put me a full day behind, so still just keeping it liquid to save up. I guess I do have the DEC…

Again, I don’t even know why I’m including this pic in this section since it’s not at all reflective of what my balances actually are, but it’s the best that I can get from them, so what can I say except: garbage in, garbage out.

GLX:
I’ve just been continuing to claim and stake the GLX drop, but speaking of dropping, I made the mistake of going in and checking the market…they’re now only about $.03! 😱 All that “free money” has evaporated to about a hundred bucks (and you know I wouldn’t even get that for it). It’s more than zero, I suppose, but I really don’t understand why it seems that all the Hive games (particularly Splinterlands ecosystem) are crashing and burning so bad. 🤷

WOO:
Not sure what happened to my stake rewards today. I guess I went in a little earlier than usual, but it shouldn’t have made that much difference. Still no mining rewards, but I was able to (eventually - Hive-Engine has been having major problems lately) stake up about fifty more from tips and airdrops. 🤑
