Spiekłem się wczoraj na plaży niemiłosiernie. I tak jak praktycznie całe ciało mam już brązowiutkie i kolejne fale słonecznego żaru nie robią na mnie wrażenia tak pozostał wciąż jeden wrażliwy obszar. Nos. Trochę bez sensu inwestować w krem z filtrem na jeden mały (no dobra, w sumie to wcale nie taki mały...) nosek. Ogólnie mam bardzo dobrą relację ze słońcem, wiem kiedy zejść ze słońca, opalam się na brązowo. Nie kupuję historii o zabójczych promieniach UV, nawet chciałem wyszukać jakichś argumentów za stosowaniem kremu z filtrem, ale (o zgrozo) wyskoczyły mi głównie artykuły przekonujące do stosowania takich specyfików CODZIENNIE. Słońce to życie. Nie widzę powodu, żeby się od niego odgradzać. Jestem jednak szczęściarzem, bo widziałem parę sni temu na własne oczy, że inni ludzie mają trudniejszą relację z naszą najbliższą gwiazdą.

Nie mniej jednak, nos ma dość. Jak na miesiąc na Teneryfie to i tak akceptowalny czas. Wczoraj około 14 zszedłem więc z plaży i pojechałem do marketu. Pojadłem, zalałem sobie koszulkę keczupem i zacząłem się zastanawiać co dalej ze sobą zrobić. No i poczułem przypływ sił. Więc czemu nie w góry? Do tej pory skwapliwe unikałem najwyższych gór i parku narodowego. Myślałem sobie, że jak już wjeżdżać autem 2km wzwyż to raz, a porządnie, wzdłuż prawie całej wyspy biegnie droga położona na tej właśnie wysokości, a jako, że plażowałem na południowym-zachodzie w góry wjechałem od zachodu.

Pierwszy przystanek to miejscowość Vilaflor, położone na wysokości 1400m n.p.m. górskie miasteczko jest domem dla dwóch wyjątkowych drzew. O kanaryjskich sosnach pisałem już wcześniej, jednak te które widziałem do tej pory to były małe dzieciaczki.

Dwunoga Sosna, bo tak chyba można przetłumaczyć jej imię jest najwyższym drzewem w całej Hiszpanii wśród gatunków naturalnie występujących. Przy wysokości ponad 56m robi niesamowite wrażenie. Już samo stanięcie przy mierzącym ponad 8m obwodu pniu daje poczucie przeniesienia się do jakiegoś innego świata. Nigdy nie widziałem drzew iglastych nawet zbliżonych rozmiarem.

To wciąż jeszcze jednak niewiele przy oddalonej o około 100m Grubej Sośnie, to drzewo starsze jest o około 200lat od Dwunogiej Sosny, nie wyrosło natomiast aż tak wysoko. Pień jest jeszcze grubszy, bo obwód drzewa to ponad 9m. Kto wie, może kiedyś pojadę do Redwood i stwierdzę, że te sosny to wciąż jeszcze karzełki.

Zawsze kiedy spotykam tak duże drzewa nachodzą mnie takie solarpunkowe wizje, ludzi żyjących w miastach zbudowanych w lasach z takimi prastarymi drzewami. Takie wizje świata w którym nie ma potrzeby działań z dziedziny ochrony środowiska bo złożone powiązania ludzi z ekosystemem są oczywiste. Jeszcze się nauczymy.

Do zachodu słońca miałem jeszcze ze dwie godziny. Jednak moje plany na następny dzień wymuszały położenie się spać dużo wcześniej niż zwykle.

I got sunburnt badly yesterday at the beach. While most of my body is already a nice brown color and further waves of scorching sun don't affect me much, there remains one sensitive area. My nose. It doesn't make sense to invest in a sunscreen for one small (okay, it's not that small...) nose. Generally, I have a very good relationship with the sun, I know when to step out of the sun, and I get a nice brown tan. I don't buy the story about the deadly UV rays, and I even wanted to search for some arguments for using sunscreen, but to my horror, I found mainly articles that convinced me to use such products EVERY DAY. The sun is life. I don't see a reason to shield myself from it. However, my nose has had enough. For a month on Tenerife, it's an acceptable time.

So yesterday, around 2 pm, I left the beach and went to the market. I had lunch, spilled ketchup on my shirt, and started thinking about what to do next. And then I felt a surge of energy. So why not go to the mountains? So far, I had been avoiding the highest mountains and the national park. I thought that if I was going to drive 2km uphill, then I should do it properly. There is a road that runs almost the entire length of the island at this height, and since I was sunbathing on the southwest, I entered the mountains from the west.

Two-Legged Pine, as her name can be translated, is the tallest tree among naturally occurring species in the whole of Spain. With a height of over 56 meters, it is truly impressive. Just standing next to the trunk, which measures over 8 meters in circumference, gives a feeling of being transported to another world. I have never seen any pine trees even close to this size.

However, it's still not that much compared to the Thick Pine, which is about 200 years older than the Two-Legged Pine but not quite as tall. Its trunk is even thicker, measuring over 9 meters in circumference. 700years old tree remembers times before Spanish colonisation. It's impressive for me, but who knows, maybe one day I'll go to the Redwoods and find that these pines are still dwarfs in comparison.

Whenever I encounter such large trees, I am filled with solarpunk visions of people living in cities built in forests with such ancient trees. Such visions of a world in which there is no need for environmental protection efforts because the complex connections between humans and the ecosystem are obvious. We will still learn.

I still had about two hours until sunset. However, my plans for the next day required me to go to bed much earlier than usual.
