El Liverpool es un equipo que ha ido mejorando como loco desde que fichó a Klopp como su entrenador en 2015. Siempre he considerado a Klopp como uno de los mejores entrenadores del mundo, especialmente después de que llegó a la final de la Liga de Campeones de 2013 con el Borussia Dortmund, que es el segundo equipo alemán en un país completamente dominado por el Bayern Munich.
3 años después de que Klopp fichara por el Liverpool ya estaban jugando la final de la Champions League, que perdieron ante el Real Madrid, y un año después volvieron a jugar la final y la ganaron ante el Tottenham. Liverpool ha estado entre los mejores equipos del mundo durante los últimos 5 años, y esta temporada parecen ser casi imparables una vez más.

This is a team that, unlike Manchester United, usually makes good decisions when signing new players, and the Colombian Luis Diaz is their latest example. They are currently competing to win their national league and are just 1 point behind Manchester City, in this tournament, the Champions League, they have clearly very high chances of reaching the final.
Villarreal, on the other hand, comes from surprisingly defeating Bayern Munich in the previous round and this makes them the big revelation of the tournament this season. Bayern is always considered as one of the teams most likely to win this tournament, they won it in 2020, and they usually reach the semifinals at least.
But not this time, Villarreal somehow managed to defeat them in the first match, and then they were able to finish the second match with a miraculous tie of 1-1. In this semifinal against Liverpool, Villarreal is far from being the favorite team but who knows, there might be a second surprise after all.
In their national league, Villarreal could have had a better performance. They are currently in position 7 which means they won't be able to participate in European competitions next season, however, there are still a few matches left to play so everything can happen.
Their performance in European competitions has been much better than their performance in national competitions, last season they won the Europa League against Manchester United, and now they are participating in the Champions League semifinal, they are playing at the highest level and their players surely know this is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity, so I expect them to do everything they can to take advantage of this.
How was the match?
The match started with Liverpool taking the initiative and quickly moving the ball near Villarreal's area while positioning most of their players on Villarreal's side of the pitch.
This aggressive attitude from Liverpool didn't prevent Villarreal from creating their own attacks and doing a couple of crosses into Liverpool's area in the first 10 minutes. After defeating Bayern Munich there is no one that can intimidate Villarreal.

The minutes kept going on and Villarreal was doing a terrific job resisting Liverpool's superiority on the pitch and reducing the pace of the match, a fast-paced match wasn't convenient for Villarreal. The match was more even than what I was expecting but Liverpool was playing better than Villarreal, they had more control and were doing more attacks as well.
Liverpool's attacking trio, Salah, Mane, and Diaz were having a nice performance, but all of their shots went either outside the net or were stopped by the goalkeeper. Villarreal was clearly proving why they are a team that deserves to play these semifinals.
Liverpool's best goal attempt in the first half happened at the 41-minute mark when Thiago sent a powerful missile straight to the post! It would have been unstoppable if it went inside but there was no luck for Thiago there. His shot was amazing and Liverpool deserved to have at least a 1 goal advantage.
Villarreal's defensive positioning was so effective, that Liverpool had to make long passes to players on both sides of the pitch, such as Robertson and Arnold, and then attempt to cross the ball to the center of the pitch as the final parts of their attacks.
Pau Torres and Albiol were having an absolutely elite performance against one of the best teams in the world. Those 2 are a great example of an experienced player, Albiol, and a younger one looking for his own glory, Torres, enriching each other and making each other better.
Liverpool's first goal happened around the 54-minute mark and even though Liverpool deserved this goal, it happened by random luck. Henderson received the ball over their right side, and he simply sent a cross into the area, with the luck that it was deflected by Estupiñán which changed the direction of the ball sending it inside the net despite the fact there was a very small angle in which it could fit.
This goal completely changed the match and could be considered an event with a tremendous psychological impact because a couple of minutes later, the second goal came.
This time, the play was created between Salah who filtered a pass near the border of the area, and Mane, who received the pass and with a quick touch was able to beat Villarreal's goalkeeper.

Liverpool is a team that can create dangerous attacks from both the sides of the pitch as well as the center. Even their right-back and left-back can create good attacks just between them. In the center, Salah, Mane, and Diaz can create triangulations capable of breaking any defensive system, plus, they had Jota on the bench, who is an amazing attacker.
The second half was completely under Liverpool's control, they could have scored 4 goals and even more just in those 45 minutes. It was a party of football in which they completely overwhelmed Villarreal players. A lot of things will have to change in their next match for Villarreal to have a chance of reaching the final. However, Liverpool is such a solid team that I really doubt they will lose a 2 goal advantage. I think this team will reach the final with zero problems.
The match ended with a fair victory for Liverpool, and I believe an even bigger goal advantage would have been fairer. Villarreal didn't exist in the second half, and 2 goals seemed like not enough of a difference.
What's next?
On the weekend, there will be probably a new LaLiga champion if Real Madrid manages to tie or win their match, or if Barcelona and Sevilla tie or lose their matches. Real Madrid only needs to win 1 more point to be champions or having Barsa and Sevilla losing points would also make them the new champions.
Winning the league this weekend could serve as an emotional impulse for the team that might help them in their second match against Manchester City next Wednesday. The fact their LaLiga match this weekend is in their stadium should also be of help. Intense moments will surely be lived at the Santiago Bernabeu in the next few days.

Yo lo tuve claro desde que el Villarreal llego a semifinales, el Liverpool lo tenía fácil. No creo que haya sorpresas en la vuelta.
Klopp es un especialista en transformar a jugadores regulares en jugadores excepcionales. Hoy hice un análisis de los errores del Villarreal, pienso que para enfrentarse a un equipo de la premier, dónde están habituados a jugar con mucha intensidad, el dejarlos estar tan cómodos en compases de tiempo tan grande fue un error fatal.

Es una lastima que el Villarreal llegue justo (o no tanto) en lo físico para este juego; a pesar del favoritismo y superioridad del Liverpool, que el Villarreal tuviera bajas en el ataque y quiénes disputaron este juego no estaban en un 100% fue un factor igual de influyente.
Aguantaron muy bien durante 45 minutos, pero el autogol cayó como un duro golpe y creo que mentalmente los hizo sentirse cansados, aunque el cambio de Pedraza por Coquelin le dió dos claras oportunidades al Villarreal que lamentablemente no se aprovecharon.
De igual forma es seguro que el próximo martes la lógica siga y el equipo de Klopp llegue a la final.
El Villarreal tuvo un primer tiempo muy digno, pero 45 minutos fue lo que pudieron medio aguantar y bueno, en el primer tiempo ya el Liverpool merecía obtener alguna ventaja.
Ese autogol fue como un torpedo para el submarino amarillo. Creo que tarde o temprano el Liverpool tenía que anotar, era cuestión de tiempo.
La presión alta afixió al Villareal que pudo haber salido con el saco lleno de Anfield.
Era algo de esperarse, tampoco espero sorpresas en la vuelta, Liverpool tiene un pie en la final
Así fue, el Liverpool tuvo una marcha más que el Villarreal no pudo igualar. Yo veo ahora al Liverpool incluso favorito en la final ya sea con City o Madrid, están jugando muy pero que muy bien.
