Improving Your Chess | Workshop #04

hive_chess_workshop_4.gif

In this week's workshop, we're going to do:

  • Scotch Gambit -- an aggressive line for white in scotch opening. (As @samostically has been saying it to be his favorite opening and wanted hive thematic arena on it, I've selected it for this workshop with illustrative games.)
  • Wild Positional and Tactical Combinations of Middlegame
  • Rook vs Bishop (with and without pawn) Endgames

1.Opening:

2.Middle-game:

White to play

If you were playing this position, what would be your evaluation of this position. Should you jump with your knight, Exploit pinned bishop or do something even more subtle?

Black to play

If you were playing this position, what would be your evaluation. How would you deliver a tactical blow, keeping in mind that your queen and rook are hanging?

Hint: a famous position

3.End-game:

White to Play

If you were playing this position, what would be your evaluation. Can black draw this position?

These ideas are must have patterns in your mind for understanding and ultimately playing better chess.

Solving the positions:

Try to solve these positions by

  1. Evaluating the position, finding who's better i.e white or black.
  2. Studying the positions one by one, without rushing.
  3. Calculating different variations no less than 5 minutes each position, for better understanding.

Yes! I consider it one of the openings that helped my chess. I love it. I've had beautiful positions playing this line. I have beaten so many strong players too.

Thanks for taking your time to do this. I hope one day @schamangerbert does a theme tournament for it.

Good work!
