Destination: St Leonards Forest: My Actifit Report Card: March 26 2025
My plan for todays cycle ride was a circular route taking in St Leonards Forest. It felt a little chilly, so I quickly returned home for my windproof jacket. π.
The first part of the ride took me along some minor roads, nice and quiet! Running along a ridge off the main road, good for cycling.
After crossing the main dual carriage way (patience is required here), entering a field with a path alongside. The temperature was beginning to rise, and it felt very pleasant.
After negotiating a track through a small wood, emerging into another open field. This is a lovely transition π.
After approaching the outskirts of Horsham, turning towards Leechpool and Owlbeech woods. It's a nice long track through here. Very dry now and great to cycle on.
This brings me to a tarmac private road, which takes me to the very edge of St Leonards Forest. There are many ways into the forest but today I aim for a track which is only cycleable in dry conditions like spring or summer. Today it was good going!
There is a nice spot next to the stream where I stopped to take a few pictures. The tree is enormous and looks like it will topple into the gulley any moment! Unfortunately, the pictures don't show depth very well.
After emerging from the deep forest into the open, I had a choice of tracks! I took the left route today, but It was a difficult choice as both routes are good uphill tracks.
Easy going now for several miles, uphill but not too steep. On exiting the forest, there is a short distance on tarmac, including a nice decent, before entering Holbush forest along a marked bridleway going downhill.
Here was probably the wettest section of track today! It's not too bad, and there is a nice dry route on the right. After getting to the bottom of this hill, turning right and into Buchan Park to complete a great ride! π
