Holiday - Day 3 (RSPB Mersehead)
dannewton just finished a 4.08km walk, that lasted for 146 minutes.
This walk helped dannewton burn 559.0 calories.
Description from Strava: Another day, another RSPB Reserve. Yesterday we visited RSPB Wood of Cree, which is the largest area of ancient woodland in Southern Scotland. 'Ancient' means well established, and there are lots of birds and insects which thrive in these wet Oak woodland conditions. I mean wet, there waterfalls everywhere!
Lots of walking up and down hills...
...it's surprisingly hilly considering we are in the Scottish 'Lowlands'!
...but we did mange to to see one of the species on our wishlist - a Redstart. This is a bird which depends on the established Oak woodlands... we were lucky enough to see a male repeatedly feeding a nest box with food, pictures to appear in a future post.
Today was a trip to another RSPB reserve at Mersehead. Compared to yesterday's woodland, today was all about marshland, as it is located close to the coast. Its meant to be good for migrating geese and other wading birds, but that's mostly in the Winter.
Summertime is mostly about butterflies and other insects, and we did see a few fluttering about in the midday sun
it was warm again today, muggy and humid too so I'm pretty sure we're due a thunderstorm later
There were a few butterflies and other bits to see and it was a pleasant enough walk, although it was becoming uncomfortably warm by the time reached the end.
Now it's time to put our feet up and relax, we are on holiday after all! Tomorrow will most likely be a trip out to see Red Kites... or maybe another RSPB reserve instead! 😂
currently in holiday with intermittent access to Internet etc, which catch up with comments when I have a chance

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)
This is an automated post by @strava2hive and is currently in BETA.
Keep going, you're smashing your training at the moment and getting stronger every day.

I hope it was cool there. Been hot here today. Year ago we went to the RSPB HQ which is just up the road from us. Apart from around their bird feeders by the car park we saw very few birds. These days we see red kites all the time around here.

All week it was been enjoyably warm during the day, but uncomfortably warm at night (much like the rest of the uk as far as I could tell from the bbc news)
There are a few places set up for feeding Red Kites (a couple in Wales and Scotland that I know of). They pretty much run all year (as the birds expect food everyday), and they are well worth a visit for a couple of hours if you happen to be in the area
