Lunch Run - 22km
dannewton just finished a 22.88km run, that lasted for 143 minutes.
This run helped dannewton burn 1831.0 calories.
Description from Strava: So today should've been a return to parkrun. However, when I took a sneak peak at the weather last night... the forecast showed it was gonna be very wet:
And this my view outside this morning... very VERY wet!
And so in time honoured tradition, I used it as an excuse to chicken out of going to parkrun this morning. To be fair, I hadn't slept very well either last night, and so I didn't particularly feel like running early this morning
I think I over did the caffeine/energy drinks yesterday... need to work on that!
So instead of getting completely soaked, I had an easy morning pottering around the house and tidying bits away. By 11:30am I could see it was starting to ease off so before I could make up another excuse, I quickly got changed and headed out side for the run
The route was standard Half Marathon loop around town, and I've done this one numerous times now... its a relative straightforward route, and is varied and interesting enough so I don't get bored, but not so complicated that I risk getting lost
As I set out at 12, the rain started to increase again, but it was too late now to change my mind!
As it was raining, I decided to put on a little rain jacket, just to protect from the worst of it... and here is proof with a rubbish selfie
You'd think as a half-decent photographer that I'd be able to take awesome selfies, that is certainly not the case! I seem to concentrate so hard of getting myself in the shot, that I forget to actually smile at the camera... more practice needed I guess!
By the time I hit Tritton Road, 25 mins after starting, the rain had pretty much stopped
crossing the bridge over the River Witham
The new B&M store
Aha! I wasn't actually looking to buy anything in town, but while passing through I've found the new B&M store, which opened 2 weeks ago, and took over what used to be Wilkinsons
Wilkinsons was a chain of general hardware stores, and they sold a bit of absolurtely everything. From Bedroom Paint, to Kitchenware, from Garden supplies to Toiletries, and Stationary to Pet food. They were often a first port of call if you were trying to buy something and didn't know where to begin... Wilko's probably had it. It was such a shame when they entered administration at the end of last year, and ultimately closed for good shortly afterwards.
I went in here to have a little nosey around, and from what I could see, the brand does seem to carry a wide range of items, but its unfortunately no patch on what wilko's could offer. Its better than nothing though, and definitely better than yet another fancy restaurant or charity shop which appears all Lincolns High Street offers these days
Curiosity satisfied, I carried on along Monks road...
by this point the rain had subsided, so I took my coat off and stuffed it into my bag as it was starting to be too warm to run in (and here's another naff selfie as proof!)
As run down Monks Road, I took a very brief detour into the Arboretum which sits along side it
Before I knew it, I was heading out of the top end of Lincoln, and joining the bypass which would eventually take me home.
I'm pleased to have got most of the run done with no rain, but I'm slightly annoyed that I've managed to miss parkrun again. Mostly because Parkrun is early, and so forces me to get my run completed in a timely fashion. Leaving it until lunchtime is too late, as by the time I've arrived back home and written this post, it is now 4:20, and the day has seemed to just disappear
I need to do better than this. I've got a couple of events that I'm lining up for next year, and if I'm going to complete to a level that I'd be happy with, some of my bad habits really need to change
First though, I need to finalize which events I'm entering (options range from a 10K race all the way up to an Ultramarathon) and then I can start planning on what I nned to put in place so that I can achieve the best result possible
And don't worry dear reader, I will fill you in on all this in due course
PS - I WILL do a flippin' parkrun next weekend!!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

Our parkrun was back after recent floods, but I was timekeeping. It was pretty wet, but people turned out anyway. They are dedicated. I shall run tomorrow.
