Description from Strava:
Well that wasn't a relaxing run!

Its the first day of my holiday and I was looking forward to going for a nice little run in daylight (instead of squeezing it in evenings after work as usual). It was wet this morning, so I was reasonably productive and got some cleaning done.

I was all set to head out after lunch, only to see the forecast was for really strong winds:

I've mentioned before that I hate running when its windy, and having to run into a strong headwind makes for a much harder effort (and of course means my heart rate rockets to compensate. But I really wanted to run in daylight, so I could actually relax this evening (I am on holiday after all!)

I decided just to go out and just get it done, I was only going to be out for an hour at most anyway. The route was pretty open and exposed along the bypass, and I could've have tried to find a more sheltered route but by the time I realised that, I had already committed to this route.

It's an out and back route, and I ended up having the wind behind me for the first half, before turning back into the wind to run home. I did think the first half might be easier with that tail wind, but the gusts of wind were so strong and inconsistent, that it kept putting me off my stride, and kept affecting my rhythm.

It was hard feckin' work out there I tell you...

And THEN after 4.5km I turned to run home, and that was even harder. My heart rate shot through the roof as expected, and I tried to manage it to keep it reasonably low by slowing my pace a little. There was only so much I could do though, and slowing down to walking pace would have just meant it would've taken me longer to get home... so eventually I just took the hit and ignored the HR alerts on my watch.

Considerably windswept, I eventually made it home. The rest of the evening I'll be relaxing with some loud shouty music (it does help me relax honest!) and then a day off on Tuesday. On Wednesday it is my birthday, and I'll be celebrating with the only thing that seems to interest me these days, by going out for a nice long run

And fingers crossed that I'll have better weather for Wednesday!

About the Athlete: Living in the UK, I am an intermittent Runner, but always striving for more consistency. When I'm not training I can be found photographing insects or listening to really loud angry music (which is the best type of music obviously!)

It's been windy here too, but I was not running and it was not too bad when I was going to and from the office. I really prefer to run in daylight as it cuts the risk of accidents. Have fun.

The weather is looking very good today. If you see the sky and black clouds of your city, the cold wind is blowing, then it is very important for human health.
