My favorite formation - Social Media Challenge

My favorite formation.png

After talking about goalkeepers in last week's Social Media Challenge, the Rabona team proposes, for this week, to decipher which is our favourite formation. Mine is clear for several reasons... but let's explain it in detail. Welcome to a new article in the Rabona universe.

Before going into details, it should be made clear that the Rabona game engine allows us only a limited number of formations. We cannot place our players in any old way. Rabona allows us to "play" with five possible formations which are as follows:

  • 1-4-3-3
  • 1-4-4-2
  • 1-4-5-1
  • 1-3-5-2
  • 1-4-2-3-1

We also have to take into account, as it is well reflected in the game guide, that each formation has its own characteristics. A certain formation works well against another formation and very badly against others. This point is something to keep in mind especially if we play in the elite of the game. There Rabona becomes a game of chess in which each player must try to anticipate the opponent's moves. Setting up the right formation to damage the opponent's formation can make the difference between a victory or a painful defeat.

So, for example, a 1-4-3-3 formation will work well against 1-4-4-2 and 1-3-5-2 but will suffer against a 1-4-5-1 formation and will do really badly against an opponent with a 1-4-2-3-1 formation. This is really important and not just in the top leagues. You should know that npc teams ALWAYS play with a 1-4-3-3 formation. That's why it's so common to see in Division 2, where I'm currently playing, teams playing 1-4-2-3-1 to counteract these npc team line-ups.

If you have made it this far, you probably already know which formation I use the most and that is why it is, at the moment, my preferred formation. As you may have already read, I play in Division 2. A division 2 that, fortunately, has more and more human players and less npc players. Although it is also true that many of these human players have the team semi-abandoned. So yes, my preferred and most used formation, for the moment, is 1-4-2-3-1.

This formation allows me to take advantage of the advantages it gives me against opponents who play 1-4-3-3 which, as I have already explained, are all the npc and almost all the humans playing in Division 2. My project and my road book, however, do not allow me to dominate the situation and opt, as of today, for promotion to Division 1 despite knowing this advantage that the formation gives me. I continue with my plan of slow but sustainable growth and I am not yet in a hurry to move up the division as I explain to you, week after week, in my series entitled The Rabona Chronicles.

So, with a reduced squad that allows me few tactical variations, playing in a modest Division 2 and with a growth project that I don't want to deviate from, my preferred formation, and will remain so for the next few seasons, is 1-4-2-3-1. A formation that gives me an advantage over npc opponents and human players who are not very active in the game and that I use, on many occasions, using strikers in positions 7, 11 and even, if sanctions or injuries force me to do so, in the number 10 position. In fact, in the matches played today, Tuesday 17th July, I have to use two midfielders in defensive positions 2 and 5.
