France and England are some of the highest-scoring teams at this World Cup. I was pretty confident going into these next two matches that they would take care of their opponents due to an overpowering offensive effort. Frankly, I just didn't think that Poland and Senegal could keep up. Was I right? Continue reading to find out.

France and England were both believed to have a chance to make it all the way this year. Not many predicted that Poland or Senegal would advance much further than the initial matches of the knockout stage. Time to see which teams were victorious.

My Prediction: France
Poland surprised me a lot with their first-half performance. France and Poland had equal possession and both teams had multiple shots that nearly resulted in goals. France however was the only team to score a goal in the first 45. It was Olivier Giroud who scored a great one in the 44th minute.

Going into halftime I think Poland had to be very happy with how well they played. They needed to do even better though and hope for a few French errors. Coming from behind against Mbappé and France is no easy task. Especially when Mbappé decided to blast a goal in the 74th minute with this shot of supreme quality.

Mbappé was not finished with his first goal, this man must have cheat codes. Right as the time ticked past the 90th minute, he decided to go full superhuman and score a second stunner to put Poland to sleep for good.

Even though the match was over at this point, Poland ended up earning a penalty kick when France succumbed to a handball inside of the box. Lewandowski was the man called upon. He missed his first attempt, but the goalkeeper came off the line and they had to do a redo. Lewandowski didn’t miss twice as he made a very easy goal to finish this one out.

The match ended immediately after that fourth goal. Mbappé has easily been the best-performing superstar in this World Cup so far. France will face their toughest opponent of the tournament yet when they play Harry Kane and England in the next round of the knockout stage.

My Prediction: England
I think most expected England to easily win this match, but Senegal is a team that must be taken very seriously. Senegal was the better team through most of the first half, but they failed to succeed with any of their shots on goal. You can see one of the multiple great shots by Senegal, this one was reflected by an even better save by England.

It wasn’t until the 39th minute that the team finally scored the first goal. It was England’s Jordan Henderson that tapped in a low cross for an English goal.

Senegal really needed to regroup at halftime and nearly made it there without conceding again. However, England was given another chance and Harry Kane shot a bullet through the Senegalese goalkeeper. 2-0 going into halftime.

Senegal was clinging on to a chance to continue through this tournament, but that was ripped from the claws of the Lions of Teranga when Bukayo Saka scored himself a goal in the 57th minute.

It was not looking good for Senegal, down three goals with about 30 minutes remaining. England continued to apply uncomfortable pressure on the Senegalese defense, although they did not score again. Senegal too failed to net any goals and was subsequently eliminated from this World Cup. England will face France in the next round of the knockout stage.
Result: 3-0 in favor of England

Giroud's goal moved him into 1st place for all-time goals for France, he just passed Thierry Henry. Even without Karim Benzema, France has so many threats on the offensive end and will give England a very tough match when they finally play.

It won't be long before Mbappé passes both Henry and Giroud as he is already well on his way at just 23 years old. This guy may be able to do the unthinkable and lead his nation to back-to-back World Cups.

After its amazing performance against Ecuador, Senegal was dissapointing against England
It was a sad day for Senegal. After so many great games in the group stage, they couldn’t make it happen in the knockout.

Interesting matches. I watched both and was greatly satisfied with the goals, movement, tactical genius of the coaches, the brilliance of some key players and most especially records that where broken.
Mpabbe was the stand out man for France while Bellingham was for England. They simple blew their opponents away with their awesomeness.
The match up between England and France will be an interesting one to look out for as France pushes to win the world cup back to back but England won't be an easy opponent to take down as they also have their attacking threats for France to try and contain. I think it will be down to the technical ability of the coaches in the dug out.

I agree that both matches were very fun to watch. England and France could be anybody's match to win, but I think it will be France that has the edge in the end.
