Sport Talk Social Contribution

sts_stop.png

3 days ago, I made a post suggesting profound changes in the community to try to boost its growth through the proposed improvements.

This happened after I had already made some posts about improvements (post1, post2, post3 and post4) and I was still of the opinion that there are several improvements that could help the community to grow both financially and socially.

The last post seems to have stirred up the community a bit as I saw numerous people (who we normally don't see in the community) commenting and 2 posts were made in an attempt to grow the team in the area of social media and community manager.
These two initiatives I think were the positive effect of my post, and I sincerely hope they are not the only ones.

However, at the end of the day I posted and after having responded to dozens of comments on the different topics I posted there, I had the feeling that I was seen as the element that wanted to take over the community and that I was the bad guy in this story.

Since I use Hive to have fun and write about topics that I like sport and I don't want to be involved in this kind of confusion, I made the decision to withdraw the proposal (which wouldn't be a big deal either because it was the wrong type) and that as of today, I will only be an element of the community like many who will continue to create content, but I will stop proactively giving ideas/suggestions.

If anyone needs/wants to discuss any ideas, I will always be available for that, I just won't be the one to give the ideas.

You were the only one to say what everybody is thinking about the community. The community does need leadership and a plan so I am happy to go along with whatever that is. We can talk about decentralisation all we want but it means there is no group guiding us strategically. Take the Hivebuzz world cup contest. That was excellent. Sportstalk should be doing things like this. Launch a proposal and nobody votes for it which means nothing happens so we are stuck. Change is needed but if it is not wanted then there is nothing you can do I suppose.

The idea of decentralization makes sense but when the project already has a certain maturity.

When you already have a self-sustainable economy and an automated process for that, but until then, in my opinion, you need a team to think about and implement things as quickly as possible.

I left with a clear conscience since I made several posts pointing out points for improvement and a concrete proposal, but if people in the community think that what we currently have is fine, I won't be the one to force anything and that's why I'll just be one content creator like many. In 1 year we will look back at the state of the community and see if anything has changed.

I don't think the issue is with you at all. The community itself is pretty stale as an entity, to be honest. I mean the most exciting things in this community have been @blanchy and @talesfrmthecrypt's contests and of course the FPL which includes the aforementioned two. I remember suggesting a few ideas when I started writing here which died down quickly.

People take decentralized to mean no unity and vision which is far from the case. I run a comedy community myself, and we had a time period where we were outdoing STP in terms of pending rewards and interactions despite having 10% of the number of members. I am not exaggerating when I say that I can bring that back with a Thursday announcement.

It's too bad your enthusiasm was beaten out of you, figuratively speaking of course. But, I guess this is what happens when a stoppable force meets an immovable object.

Thanks a lot for your support.

I agree with you that all contests related to sport are done outside our community as the case of the World Championship created by HiveBuzz or by initiatives of some elements that have nothing to do with the foundation or management of the community.

Decentralization is something that can be good if used at the right time and STS is certainly not an example of this, as we are clearly not at the point where everything has to be decentralized yet.
This should only have waited when it already had a good base of self-sustainability, an active community and incentive for people to want to do more stake.

I'm not surprised at all that a comedy community managed to be much more rewarding or satisfied than the STS in the current situation at the end of the day, despite having a worldwide theme, it ends up being just one more community among many.

The enthusiasm was not defeated. It was more a matter of being rational that if I present an alternative to what we currently have and the answer I got was that the majority of the community did not interact and did not want to know about the subject, it is clear to me that this is a lost war from the outset and stops make sense to spend energy on it.

Dear @cryptosimplify, thank you for the mention.
May we ask you again to renew your support for our proposal (https://peakd.com/proposals/248)?
Our project is not funded since the end of December and we would like to continue to organize more events as we did for the World Cup last year.
Your help would be really appreciated. Thank you!

Would be very wise move if you want to create a new tribe for Sports instead. I think that will solve some of your woes. However, if you want to create, you need to assure that the governance is not decided by a group of people but by people with built stake.

A complete reboot on the tokenization is needed with an innovative approach on the reward pool. Sports should be a tribe that should've been in the top list but sadly we didn't get that traction.

When I was writing the change proposal, I really though create a new SPORTS community and start it from 0.

That allows us to think in a better tokenomics and don't need to handle this nightmare. However,

In addition to the costs that were involved, there was also the fact that I have no knowledge of whales that could help us with the curation issue in the beginning.

That's why I ended up following the strategy of trying to improve the community that already exists, but as we've seen, it's something that not everyone agrees with.

From my personal experience, the whales are watching. If the idea/project is solid enough to be supported and that it is ensured that the people/team behind this project can be trusted and has what it takes to deliver the project, then you'll get likely to be supported.

I'd like to see how you will be handling plagiarism, abuse, circle jerking, and most importantly how the reward pool gets distributed. I'd like to know how will you be reaching out the billions of Sports fans all over the world to jump into Hive and participate. The DAO, front end, curation and author rewards split payout, Hive delegations, and many more. They are important things if you want to create the project, you can present the idea first without any development at all, as long as they see it is robust.

On the other hand, I somehow understand Patrick's decision. It is difficult to turn over the keys and management will be a long battle as he has been an advocate of the Sports platform. If a whale or a delegation is what we receive, then I think this tribe will be revived - only if they are managed by trusted individuals, not only in a couple of months, but over time. Transparency is also very important.

So my suggestion is, because I don't think @patrickulrich can just turn over the management as the goal of yours is to rebrand, re-establish, and tweak some important features of the platform, then I don't see a complete turnover is much needed. I believe the key for this is to be more technical with the changes? Multi sig? And probably townhall too.

@korver I can understand your point of view, but currently I really don't what to talk more about this topic since I decided to forget about this.

My idea was not only have few people deciding what will happen about community roadmap but was to have a townhall as you said with key users that would help to decide and implement things.
But as I said, this is a forgotten topic on my part.

I hope you can come up with something in the very near future. Sports should have been one of the very top communities on Hive. We have billions of fans all over the world and if we can get at least 0.01% of them that's already a great feat.
