My Handball Career 2022/2023 #10
This week was the last competitive week of 2022 and with two very important games, as we had a game against the 3rd and 4th ranked and in case we managed to win both games we would guarantee classification for the next phase with 3 games to go before this phase ends.
For me this week was complicated, because on Wednesday I went to an otorhinolaryngologist and an ophthalmologist, and I was diagnosed with tonsillitis and conjunctivitis.
Since I had to start taking antibiotics as soon as I left the consultations, I called my coach to see what to do about training, because I had to go to games because even if I didn't play a great game, my experience is essential in the team.
The decision we made was for me not to train on Wednesday to start the antibiotics and when I went to play on Thursday I had already taken at least two pills and that way I could be a little better.
Estrela Vigorosa Sport entered the game better than us and ended up winning by 5-1. However, our team was not shaken, and we gradually recovered the result and reached the break losing by 11-10.
In the second half, we entered very well and quickly took the lead (11-13).
The score was always balanced until we managed to have a 3-goal advantage that we never let go.
This made us win 24-27 in the end.
This result left us one win away from qualifying for the next stage.
At the end of the game I had a conversation with my coach and since the next game was on Sunday, we decided that I wouldn't train on Friday to try to improve and be able to play against GC Tarouca.
We entered the game with the thought of winning, as we can say that this was the most important game in our season so far.
We got into the game very well and managed to stay just ahead of the scoreboard by 7-1. However, when GC Tarouca changed its defensive system from 6:0 to 5:1, our attack experienced a lot of difficulties, and we started to have several losses of the ball.
GC Tarouca took advantage of our moment and began to recover the disadvantage through direct counterattacks or quick transitions.
However, there we managed to score again and ended the first half winning by 11-10.
In the second half, the game remained very balanced, however, we reached a two-goal lead (22–20) and with possession of the ball to move to a three-goal lead. However, GC Tarouca moved to a deeper defense that made our attack make various mistakes, and GC Tarouca ended up managing to tie the game 22–22.
We still had possession of the ball to try to make it 23-22, but we couldn't.
This was not the result we would like to achieve, as we are not mathematically classified yet, because if we lose all the remaining games until the end of this phase, we will be out of the classification.
At the end of this game, I had the feeling that my team is missing at least one more experienced element for when the game is at the “hot” time and manage to command the team in attack, because at this moment the only experienced players since I am the only one with experience but I am a goalkeeper, so I can't help in the attack.
Now we will have a month off from the championship that I can use to see if I can improve my knees and also to spend a little more time with my family.
Classification
Currently, we need one more victory to be qualified for the next phase.
