Greetings Splinterlanders! If you have been current with the times, or seen my other post here, you folks know that the Wild/Standard division update will eventually be implemented and the Spellbook cards available to everyone have already changed. The card "Animated Corpse" is no longer included with the Spellbook, this means it is no longer part of the default set of phantom cards. However this card will still be able to be played in Wild for rewards, but you now have to own it. This card will not be appearing in Standard, so this trusty meatshield will hit the shelves for those wishing to compete in Standard. This card has a cost of 4 ,6 hp, 2 melee attack, and 1 speed (gains void at higher levels). This card can take a very good beating and has a high hp at lvl 1 for a 4 cost card.
In all, I think this is a trusty defender for the death faction and a classic card (much like the classic film featured in the banner).
Strategy And Positioning: Double Feature, Same Formula
In the battle here I put animated corpse in position 1 to absorb the anticipated barrage of magical damage. The enemy chose to use a very common high damage magic water lineup included with the Spellbook before recent updates, and cards that for the foreseeable future will only be seen in the Wild format. My summoner providing reflect was enough to decimate the enemy, but it should be noted that animated corpse's high hp let it withstand more hits than expected. For back to basic AND little league it is hard to do better than this 4 cost tank for the death faction in the previous commonplace meta.
In the battle here I put Animated Corpse in position 2 after a position 1 furious chicken spacer (common practice). The rules are Super Sneak and Divine Shield so my The Vigilator is able to use his ranged attacks, and the enemy melee units attack Djinn Chwala with thorns in position 5. This combination of cards with thorns and heavy melee damage and ranged damage cause the enemy to fall very rapidly. Animated Corpse served as a buffer in case the enemy played off ruleset and used magic to throw off the method of focused attack from last position, and if this were the case it would have void to assist in reducing damage. My summoner's debuff worked well for the ruleset and the enemy lineup, drastically reducing enemy damage.
Talking Tidbits and Pack Opening
The lore for the animated corpses are that they are the cannon fodder for the front lines, this is to speed their transition into dark eternals. Their lore fits with their typical gameplay role as a meatshield. This tried and true card is a good tank and will be missed in the Standard meta. In this pack I got a GOLD FOIL 9 cost Mycelic Slipspawn! Very nice indeed, and a taunt card (something I always like to have). I am looking forward to using it in the arena.
Saying Goodbye to a Spellbook Favorite: Giveaway
The Animated Corpse will no longer be seeing play in standard but that doesn't mean you can't play with it until then and in Wild thereafter. So for this giveaway, in honor of the Animated Corpse moving out of Standard play I will be delegating 1 person who likes AND comments to this post (at random) an Alpha lvl 1 Animated Corpse for 30 days! Are you feeling lucky? Don't forget to follow for more giveaways and cool content.
