"I Found 23 Closed Doors": Ronaldo's Exit from the CBF Presidency Race Only Shows the Delay and Decline of Brazilian Football

Those who follow Brazilian football know that the football we have played in recent years does not even represent 10% of the glorious history of the Brazilian National Team. I was able to watch the last World Cup win in 2002 and since then, what we have seen has been disappointment and embarrassment, such as the 7-1 defeat we suffered at home in the 2014 World Cup semifinal.

Perhaps it was precisely after that historic defeat that many people woke up and realized that the Brazilian National Team no longer has that "shine", that fear that it gave to other opponents, because whether they like it or not, many countries had respect and a certain "fear" of facing Brazil in the past, but today all that has changed and for those who understand football, they know very well that something needs to be done, a radical change would be the best path to follow at this time.

Years and years have passed, the CBF, the highest governing body of Brazilian football, has shown itself to be corrupt, and many presidents have been accused of corruption. Ricardo Teixeira, one of the most powerful names at the time at the head of the CBF, was banned by FIFA in 2012. Brazilian football has never had a positive evolution. In fact, I believe that our football has stopped in time and we have seen many other countries improve their football over the last few years, especially collective football.

Ronaldo is No Longer Candidate for President of the CBF

Today we had the official announcement made by Ronaldo Fenômeno, unfortunately he withdrew his candidacy and the reason is absurd. Of the 27 presidents of the football federation, only 4 wanted to sit down and listen to Ronaldo's proposals. The other 24 presidents didn't even want to listen. They didn't even open the door to hear the proposals and that, as I said, is completely absurd.

In the opinion of the vast majority, the presidents said that the current administration is doing very well and that they support the reelection of the current president, Ednaldo Rodrigues. Just as Ronaldo politely explained on the internet his reasons for having withdrawn, he was very honest in saying that he respects the opinion of the presidents of the federations who didn't want to listen.

According to journalist Vitor Sergio Rodrigues, the 27 federations receive a kind of allowance twice a month, one of which is for "expenses" and the other goes directly to the president of the federation. Now tell me if this doesn't make sense, and that the vast majority don't even want to sit down and listen to Ronaldo's proposals? At times like these, I remember that we are in Brazil, where right is wrong and this type of thing is completely natural, regardless of the department where it is happening.

This is why Brazilian football will not change for the better any time soon, because if these same people who dominate these institutions remain in power, the chances of seeing the Hexa will increasingly disappear before our eyes. The clubs need to take action so that this does not continue. Just to give you an idea, in the electoral board, the division of votes is divided as follows:

• Federations: Vote weight 3
• 20 Clubs from Series A: Vote weight 2
• 20 Clubs from Series B: Vote weight 1

Due to this completely unfavorable distribution of vote weight for the clubs, it becomes even more evident why we are living through the worst period in the history of Brazilian football. Perhaps my generation was the last to be able to see stars who were part of the best squads of the Brazilian National Team and today we have Neymar who has been injured more than he has been active. Vini Junior has great potential, but we really need the collective to think about greater achievements from now on and I don't even know if we'll be able to experience it all again any time soon.
