Jupiler League Week 9 Saturday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

Yesterday was another match were Club Brugge stayed way below their potential losing points and I'm waiting for coach Hayen to be sacked to properly start backing them. I kept my exposure to a minimum which resulted in just a 0.05 unit loss on the match. In the coming days it looks like I will have a couple bigger positions starting today in the Standard vs Westerlo match.

Genk vs Mechelen

Genk is hot right now as the best playing team in the league who are 5 points clear in the standings. Everybody is fit and they have a good A-Squad and also a good bench and a solid coach. They did win 4-0 last week at home against Dender which wasn't really the biggest reference and most of the goals came in the 2nd half after they already were in the lead. A bigger reference for today is the match against Westerlo which was won with just a 1-0 score on 1.68xg - 0.53xg numbers with Westerlo as a team who on paper is more forward compared to Mechelen today. Mechelen however is missing some defenders with Foulon, Vanheusden, Van Cleemput, Walsh which partly are key starters and ok backups. So far this Season Mechelen has been good away going 2W-1L-1P against the asian handicap as they generally defend and lure on the counter which also gives a 4W-0L record on away under. While at home they try to play more forward in front of their fans which resulted in 2W-2L and 3W-1L on the overs. So there is a clear divergence in the home/away style and results which often gets overlooked in the odds. Also now the total line is set at 3.5 which just feels very high as I see a match were they will once again just try to keep a clean sheet while possibly coming out on the counter. Only if they get a goal against quite early I see a danger of a potential wild scoreline. I took 0.369 units on Under 3.25 @ 2.083 and 0.134 units on 1H Under 1 @ 3.04 anticipating a match where Mechelen pust all focus on the defense at the start with Genk having control without taking too many risks to get hit on the counter. If this plays out without an early goal I likely will reduce the risk or get in a middle position. Mechelen already played Brugge, Antwerp, AA Gent away which resulted in 1-1, 0-1, 2-0 results and a combined 28-8 in corners each time losing the corners matchup in the 1st half. That is also one of the things I will keep an eye on if it gets to a -1 line or better on that handicap.

Standard vs Westerlo

Standard this season is a team that lacks offensive quality and I would say Zequiri and Eckert Ayensa aren't really solving this. They so far focused on keeping things tight in defense at the cost of taking risks offensively and there is no reason whatsoever to go change this since it's working with them in 7th place at the moment while in reality they are still one on the candidates for a relegation spot. They are at an average of just 0.7 xg in their matches and just 0.6xg in their last 3 while they have just 1.21xg against on average and 1.16xg against in the last 3. Westerlo started the season with many crazy high scores while they still had Madsen and Stassin while now they have a better defense with Bayram back. They played also very defensive against Genk on the counter coming for a draw and I wouldn't be surprised if they allowed Standard the ball to against come out on the counters today. Standard is a team with a 6.5W-1L-0.5P record on their Under line which is my main reference for this match and I see the 2.75 line as too high. I took 0.5 units on Under 2.75 @ 1.822 and also 0.2 units on 1H under 1 @ 2.106 both with an eye to possibly scale out in-game if there is no early goal. I also look to oppose Standard when they are the favorite which right now isn't the case as they have 2.075 odds on the +0 line at home which feels about right. If Standard takes the lead, I might look to back Westerlo on the corners as Standard away where they don't have to make the play are 42-4 on corners!

Dender vs Anderlecht

Anderlecht played in the Europa league winning 2-1 from Ferencvaros for the first time really showing some signs of improvement in the 2nd match from their interim coach. Fatigue might be somewhat of an issue today and they still are without Vertonghen and Augustinsson while Dreyer is back. Dender took good points early in the season but they seem to be in a regression to the mean stage as it was impossible for every shot to keep going in like it was. They are coming off a 4-0 loss against Genk and a 0-2 loss at home against Standard. They usually play a high-pressing counter-style game and Anderlecht right now isn't the most secure defensively with the players they have there right now. overall their remains a match where I will just wait and see. I don't quite trust Anderlecht enough after just 1 ok showing and possible fatigue from that to back them knowing their defense might not be the most secure. No Pre-Game bets
