Not the start I hoped for on Thursday with AA Gent winning even though a draw would by no means have been unfair. The good thing however is that it very much looks like all 3 teams will qualify for the European group stage. Only 6 matches this weekend in this league as the teams who play in Europe get some rest to maximise their chances. Just 2 today with a normal Sunday.
Westerlo vs OH Leuven
Westerlo took an excellent start in the first 3 weeks playing an offensive game and deserving the 9 on 9 even though after taking the lead they always got sloppy getting some goals against. Last week, the match against AA Gent started pretty poorly from both sides and in a couple minutes, Westerlo totally gave it away with 3 goals against in a couple minutes. This week, they also lost their best and most important player Madsen so it very much possible that the momentum has turned already. I don't expect all of a sudden for Westerlo to become a team that puts all the focus on the defense but after getting 9 goals against in the past 3 matches this for sure will be a working point. OHL so far has not lost yet but also only won 1 match. I feel they have more quality and are better than they actually believe so far. Even at home against Cercle Brugge they mainly crawled back speculation on the counter so I do expect a very similar approach today with mainly Westerlo having the ball taking the initiative while OHL puts the focus on keeping things tight in the defense trying to break out on the counters. I would not be surprised to at some point see goals against probably in bunches, at the same time I understand why the odds on the over line went up even though Westerlo based on their xg has an average of 4.35 goals in each of their last 3 matches. My main bet is 0.4 units on
Westerlo 1st Half -0.5 Corners @ 1.777 because of the match picture I anticipate. This despite the fact that the stats don't really favor Westerlo as they are yet to win a corners matchup while OHL won their matchup against non-top teams. I also took 170 USDC as a crypto bet on it. It it wasn't for the poor stats, I would be willing to go a bit bigger overall but now I will just see how it goes early on and maybe add some more. I also took a cautious 0.15 units on the over spread between 0.112 units on
Over 2.75 @ 1.953 & 0.038 units on
Over 3.5 @ 2.817. Also here I'm looking to maybe take more in-game if the first goal takes a while. I liked OHL +0.5 but those odds have come down so I'm staying away.
Antwerp vs Kv Mechelen
Antwerp so far this season played surprisingly well despite losing quite a few players with others possibly still making a transfer and the club needs the money. They won 2 matches against Charleroi 0-1 and Stvv 6-1 while they lost both matches against top teams Anderlecht with 1-2 and Club Brugge with 1-0. In both those matches that they lost they actually played good and deserved more. Mechelen is another team who lack the financial needs and they also have some injured players with Vanheusden, Konaté, Antonio, Lauberbach which leaves them somewhat handicapped. They make up for the lack in overall quality with generally a more defensive approach especially away. They lost their 2 home matches each by 2+ goals and tookd the draw in both of their away games. The match last season ended in a 0-1 away win with both teams not in a hurry from the start. The main question for me is if the Mechelen defense actually is good enough right now with Vanheusden out. I do believe though Hasi once again will come with the intention to defend and keep the clean sheet as long as possible with the hope to maybe get a counter in. I took 0.2 units on

1H Under 1.25 @ 1.980 both with an option to opt out in-game if needed. Mechelen so far lost all their 1st half away corners while Antwerp won their 1st half home corners. Given the expected match picture I took 0.217 units on
Antwerp 1st Half -0.5 Corners @ 1.670 choosing lower odds as the odds gap between the -1 line is too small to be worth the risk.
