Again not a day that I had hoped for but I do feel my overall form is pretty ok at the moment and will just continue grinding starting today where I have 3 main bets.
Antwerp vs Anderlecht
Both teams in week 1 took a narrow 1-0 win. However, for Antwerp this was away against Charleroi (who presented themselves well yesterday) and they had 1.86xg. Anderlecht at home against stvv (who showed to be really poor yesterday) just were nowhere and had no answer whatsoever against the defensive mostly just playing the ball around and getting lucky to score the 1-0 in extra time. There was again a lot of criticism on coach Riemer again and it feels like another crisis is not so far away. Overall, Antwerp just still has a decent team and they seem to have some momentum going while Anderlecht still seems to be searching and in need of some big transfers. It's on top a home game for Antwerp and I didn't see them as the underdog early on in the week taking 0.5 units on
Antwerp +0.25 @ 1.819. The odds went up a bit first to 1.89 as Ekkelenkamp was transferred but by now they shifted massively to Antwerp being the even money favorite. so nearly a 3 quarter ball move. I guess at least some of that was because of the performances yesterday of their previous opponents Charleroi and Stvv. It wouldn't be the first time that Riemer plays a defensive counter-game and I don't expect a wide open start of the match also because Antwerp say how poorly Anderlecht was when having somewhat of a defense. De Roeck also stated that they will start out the season more with focus on defense and work their way up to becoming more offensive-minded. I took 0.245 units on
1st Half Under 1 @ 2.143 which I feel is just a bit too much. If the match starts out hot without a goal I won't hesitate to opt out.
Cercle Brugge vs Kortrijk
Cercle Brugge narrowly managed to quality for the next round in the Europa League and last week it showed that these mid-week matches already had an impact on their league games as they lost 3-0 against Westerlo. Mainly their key striker Denkey seems out of form also missing a penalty as they want to transfer him but there are no offers anywhere near to what they want. Kortrijk last season was a relegation team but with a coach change they managed to avoid that and the owner now pumped money in the team again. They lost their first match last week at home against AA Gent but they actually deserved more and presented themselves pretty well. I see Kortrijk as a team that might be overlooked at the moment and Cercle Brugge a team that might be overrated due to last year and the added Europe matches. I took 0.4 units on
Kortrijk +1 @ 1.810. I also think the corners handicap is a bit too big and took 0.053 units on
Kortrijk +2.5 Corners @ 1.862 also adding a bit to that as a crypto bet.
Standard vs Club Brugge
Standard managed to get a 0-0 draw last week against Genk but arguably has even less quality compared to last season. They only had 0.09xg while Genk had 2.01 and most of the times just would have won that match. The main difference with Standard this year is that they do seem to have the right fighting mentality. However, this will only get them that far in the league while the reality is that they just once again lack quality and at best are a mid-table team. Club Brugge played a typical match against Mechelen where they clearly were the better team assuming they would win in the end not putting enough energy into it. This got them to a 1-0 lead without giving anything away all match aside from 1 moment where Mechelen managed to make the 1-1. I still see Brugge as a team head and shoulders above the competition and today none of the players in Standard would come even close to being in their squad. Purely on quality, Club Brugge should always come out on top in this one and they should be warned and sharp after the Super Cup and the 1st league match right from the start. I took 0.5 units on
Club Brugge 1st Half -0.25 @ 1.820 (part of it early and part today after odds returned). I don't see it that likely for Standard to take the lead or even score also adding 0.045 units on
Standard Team Total Under 0.75 @ 2.05 & 0.045 units on
Standard Team Total Under 0.5 @ 2.52. in case they do take the lead or if it remains a draw at Half Time, I have some room to put more on Club Brugge.
AA Gent vs FC Dender
AA Gent so far this season has not impressed. They had a mid-week away European match against what can be seen as a 3rd division Belgian team. They mainly rotaded in the offense and started poorly to eventually win comfortably as the opponent got tired near the end. Last week they also arguably were the worse team against Kortrijk but still managed to win with a 0-1 score. Overall they still have a good team with the potential to put in a great performance but it's just too big of a gamble right now. Dender as many other smaller team parked the bus at home against Union and came away with a 0-0 draw. I'm still not fully sure how to estimate Dender but the asian betting market seems pretty clear as 2.719 odds on them as the +1 underdog got pounded down to under evens. In this match I will just see how it goes and possibly make a move in-game.
