Jupiler League Week 17 Saturday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, and injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

It was a good mid-week with the cup matches where I felt the edge again while lacking the confidence in my estimation to really bet harder which resulted in just shy of half a unit profit which is still nice given how things have gone. Two days now with 4 matches each for week 17 already in the league and I hope to continue to momentum even though I do plan to keep a cautious approach.

Genk vs Kortrijk

Genk right now is still on top in the standings but they clearly are in a form dip. They made 6 subs in the Cup match and had to play extra time against Standard in the cup where Genk was not good enough to really break the defense. They still won after some of the A-Squad players came in. Last week in the league they were outplayed by Stvv but still managed to get a 2-2 result. Against Charleroi the week before they played a poor 1st half only scoring the 1st goal in minute 77' after which they scored 2 more giving a flattering result. So while the results are there, the level of play has not been there in the last 4+ matches. Kortrijk managed to keep Antwerp to a 0-0 playing with their A-Squad showing a lot of energy and pressing at the start and they lost with the penalties in extra time. The week before against Mechelen they out of nowhere had 100% finishing while Mechelen had a total off day. Before that they at times showed very little and a lack of drive but this seems to have kind of been solved. So the main question in this match is how much fatigue mainly for Kortrijk will be an issue and if Genk can find their better form again. Normally I put the line in a match like this at -1.5 @ 1.85 odds but given the poor form from Genk, it might take some time for them to get the first goal in. So I'm anticipating better odds in game or a situation where there is more certainty with Genk already in the lead and Kortrijk having to take risk. I'm going in with a Lean on Genk and the Over but with No Pre-Game Bets

Standard vs OH Leuven

Standard is back to just playing full defense as they simply lack quality and it remains a small miracle what Leko managed to pull off in terms of points they so far have taken. They also remain a team you don't really want to fade at home where they are now 6W-1L-1P on the season. While I do always looks to oppose Standard when they are the favorite, they actually are at a point where they are the home underdog. So results no longer are valued by the market creating a harder time to find value as this used to be one of the ways to find an edge in the market. OHL so far has been the most under team in the league at least with their old coach while they managed to win with 5-0 against the semi-B-squad if 2nd division Leader Zulte-Wagremen in the cup. So they are coming into it with some momentum also beating their handicap last week against Anderlecht in a 0-0 match keeping them from scoring and they also beat their handicap in a 1-1 match against Union. This now makes them the favorite away against Standard at a total line that is set at 2. I don't see any edge at the moment the way things are so No Pre-Game Bets

Mechelen vs Club Brugge

Mechelen played their A-Sqaud in the cup match away against Beerschot and took a good start but didn't get further than a 2-2 playing extra time and losing on the penalties. So there certainly will be a fatigue factor also because Club Brugge played 1 day earlier taking a straightforward win away against Patro. In the league the week before, Mechelen had a total off day and it feels like their excellent form from some time has turned around more based on their actual quality as they don't have that great of a team with mostly Hasi performing micractles as a coach. They also are without Foulon, Vanheusden and Storm today. Club Brugge on the other hand is on cruise control with 7-0 and 4-1 wins in their last league matches. Both these matches however were at home while the week before against Beerschot they only got to a 2-2 result. Brugge is the best 1st half away team while Mechelen is the 2nd best home 1st half team. The most straightforward result now given the forms these teams are in is the away win but Mechelen for sure could be able to put a solid performance at home while it would not be a surprise. My lean is on the over and on the visitors and I took 0.13 units on Brugge Win & BTS @ 3.306 along with 0.07 units on Over 3.5 @ 2.799 leaving a lot of room for in-game bets. Mechelen al home always tends to be able to score.

AA Gent vs Sint-Truiden

AA Gent continues to be a team that doesn't live up to their status as a top team and also lost in the cup against Union in an open match with a 3-2 score despite putting up a hopeful performance. They have taken more points than what they deserve so far sitting in 6th place with just 1 win in their last 5. That came at home against Standard with a 5-0 score. So against an opponent who has an off day they certainly are capable. Overall, Gent remains a team that I'm looking to oppose mainly especially away as at home they have beaten their handicaps and tend to play better. Stvv has shown excellent things and nice improvements after Mazzu took over . They qualified in the cup away against Cercle who took and early red card after which the 0-1 quickly came which they controlled. The week before they put up an excellent performance against Genk at home in a match they always should have won and where they were robbed by the VAR. On the other side, away from home against Club Brugge the week before they were totally nowhere losing with a 7-0 score while their away matches before also were 2-1 and 3-2 losses. So a lot depends on which stvv stands up today as they generally aren't as good on the road while AA Gent tends to be much better at home. This is what explains the 0.75 line. I still could not resist a 0.1 units bet on Stvv +0.25 @ 1.840 as an away win would not really come as a surprise. If the match picture shows to be favorable, I might also get in on an over bet or both to score.
