Not the week I had hoped for so far being at a -1.62 unit loss with 4 more matches to go and no major bet on any of them at least yet. I'll see how it goes and try to avoid getting down more in the first place.
Anderlecht vs Standard
Anderlecht didn't get further than a 1-1 draw away in Dender last week and they followed that up with a surprise win in the Europa League away over sociedad despite playing somewhat of a B-Squad with an eye on the match against Standard. From all that I'm hearing, they really have their eye on this one and should do everything to win. So I do expect high energy and motivation from the home team who also are in a better state mentally. Standard last week at home for the first time tried to play a bit more forward and they got pushed for it losing with 1-2 against Westerlo. So I'm expecting today again the usual well building defense at the cost of the offense crawling back with an eye to lure on the counters. I'm not sold yet on the ability to create all too much against a defensive team and expect this to start with the main focus on not taking too much risk. I took small initial positions on
1H Under 1.25 @ 1.793 and 0.1 unit on
1H Under 1 @ 2.300. I'm also leaning on Anderlecht but need to see more before willing to take the current odds.
Antwerp vs Cercle Brugge
Antwerp played an excellent match last week against Beerschot which hardly is a reference. The weeks before though they also managed to put up good performances and generally have a good form with not too high xg both for and against. Generally, they have beaten their handicaps and the fact that they don't play in Europe helps with this. The team that looks to suffer the most from their European matchis looks to be Cercle as their style is very demanding which is hard to do twice a week. However they got a crazy 6-2 win over St Gallen in what was a very open and attractive match. Their goalkeeper got injured so Delanghe will take over and it remains to be seen if he's actually any good or not. Cercle is 2nd last in the league but they have been improving especially with Denkey finding his form again. I feel that the odds are set about right in this one and there is not much to work with so I'm waiting to see what the match brings in-game.
No Pre-Game bets
Club Brugge vs Union SG
Club Brugge remains in my view the team that should easily win matches against most opponents by 2+ goals yet they have really failed to convince 90 whole minutes. They did manage to win 0-1 in Europe against a weak Sturm Graz taking again a good start but not continuing after they took the lead. Union had a day less rest and they didn't get further than a 0-0 against Bodo/Glimt again having the same issue that their finishing simply wasn't good enough. That while the week before against Kortrijk it kind of looked like they were on the verge of having overcome it with Ivanovic who looked quite good. I do expect a match where both start out going for it with Club Brugge mostly having the initiative. I took a tiny 0.1 unit bet on
Club Brugge 1H -0.25 @ 2.150 and will look at a possible 1H Over 1 and 1H over 4 corners. Club Brugge is a team that so far always does get chances against.
Stvv vs AA Gent
So AA Gent has been a team that hasn't convinced me but somehow they always managed to win their matches especially at home. They had a mid-week match against a Chelsea B-Squad where they got totally overpowered in what could have been a bigger score than the 4-2 loss. Stvv under their new coach Mazzu hasn't lost yet but they were lucky to make the 1-1 late against Cercle, Beerschot wasn't a reference and against Leuven they arguably deserved the loss. Their coach tends to be defensive minded and their quality surely had improved since the start of the season. I'm going to stay away from this as I don't trust stvv enough while AA Gent might continue to ride their luck. This also might be the match too many on Sunday so I might just only watch the 2nd half not taking any focus from the Club Brugge match.
