These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...
Saturday must have been the most boring football day in quite a while. One a positive note, I'm quite sure that the worst match of the season is already behind us as I can't any of the following ones being worse than Anderlecht vs Stvv which at times looked line the last minutes from Genk against Westerlo. Stvv just came to defend and Anderlecht just played the ball around for 90 minutes being tuckly to score the 1-0 right at the end. The league continues today with 4 matches...
Genk vs Standard
It's not a secret that Standard is in a very difficult spot and that they are far away from the top team they once were. This season this might even get worse and many of the players they acquired would just be way too low-quality years back. So the main question is how to properly value the current team if they are still or if the lines already fully adjusted. Last season in total they went 10.5W-14L-5.5P. However since Leko took over after the new year they are 4W-3.5L-2.5P. At this point it feels like if they play badly it's fully expected and any performance that is somewhat good would be a surprise. Genk is a top team that isn't playing in Europe this season which tends to result in a team that generally beats the asian handicaps love the course of the season. Similar to Anderlecht (20.5W-7.5L-2P) last year, Genk the season before (18.5W-11L-4.5P) even though by no means is this a guarantee. They had quite some changes over the summer with a new coach and 5+ new players in the team while having some hey players out or no longer there. Vandevoort left but Penders and Van Crombrugge should be worthy replacements. Galaraza is not in the team, Heynen is still injured, El Khannous is at the Olympics and likely will still leave, El Ouahdi also us at the olympics. My main concern right now is that they just have a team that might be too young with Penders (18), Smets (20), Bangoura (20), Karetsas (16), Baah (19), Steuckers (22), Nkuba (20), Fadera (22), Oh (23). The question also remains if they really solved the striker position and scoring problem. I feel this one will either end in a multiple goal easy win for Genk or an upset where Standard takes something. I'm waiting for the in-game match picture before possibly taking something.

Kortrijk vs AA Gent
AA Gent already played a mid-week match at home against what can be seen as a belgian 3rd division team. They didn't look all too good at the start and came 0-1 behind but improved during the match to still win it with 4-1 with a cheap penalty and a very bad goalkeeper mistake. Coach Vrancken also said that Kortrijk was going to be something else in the first week and didn't sound overly confident that they are going to win it easily. On top of this, their best player De Sart will leave the Quatar which was coming ever he got a big payday offer. I would be highly surprised if he would play today. Fernandez-Pardo also likely will make a transfer still. So while they have the potential to be a good team, I think there is a good chance for this match to be rather difficult for them. Kortrijk last season had a fight against relegation and managed to make it. Their owner now also is willing to put money in again and they did some good transfers potentially having a scoring striker which is of vital importance for teams like this to do well. So overall this season I'm looking for spots to potentially back Kortrijk especially with Kadri still with them. I do think the +1 line for AA Gent as the away team is too high and took 0.6 units on
Kv Kortrijk +1 @ 1.876. In needed/possible I would scale down the stakes in-game. AA Gent also looks like an over team as they should play forward similar to Genk last season under vrancken who got plenty of goals against. Aside from Watanabe, I'm also not too impressed by the AA Gent Defense and goalkeepers.
Charleroi vs Antwerp
Charleroi especially under Mazzu was a big disappointment last season and they had to fight against relegation until the end. In the playdowns however, they comfortably managed to make it and I do expect them as a team under de Mil that is way more willing to go forward. Charleroi tried the switch from ultra defensive to more forward and attractive multiple times but each time it failed. They still have Zorgane in the team and should have ok quality. Antwerp when they became the champion fully relied on money from the owner and expensive experienced players + coach to get that done. This money inflow however is no longer there and they have to do with a cheaper coach and more youngsters while possibly more of their best players still could leave (Keita, Balikwisha). Janssen hasn't shown his best form in a while and players like Kerk & Ekkelenkamp a couple years back never would make the A-Squad. So I don't consider Antwerp as a title contender and them making a top 6 spot would be a success. I do see them as too big of a favorite in this one but at the same time don't really know what to expect from Charleroi. I ended up taking just 0.1 unit on
Charleroi +0.5 @ 1.853. Antwerp has a coach that generally wants to play forward and they should be more offensive compared to the past years but he made remarks that at first it will be all about being secure defensively so for now I'm waiting to possibly bet over on them either for later weeks of if the play today looks like there will be goals.
Westerlo vs Cercle Brugge
Westerlo last year lived above their standings with many expensive transfers but never really managed to convince under De Roeck and Goor who temporarily took over. It looks like they managed to keep most of their players and I would not be surprised if they did much better this season. Cercle Brugge was one of the overperforming teams last season with the play-style of Muzlic none of the teams really like to play against. They lost a couple players with Siquet & Lemarechal and I do expect them to not have an easy time confirming especially if they also quality for Europe. They played away against Kilmarnock (9.7M) in the mid-week ending that match in a 1-1 draw with a 2nd leg coming up on Thursday. The match against Westerlo who are worth 40M should be more difficult. I did take just 0.1 unit on
Westerlo +0.25 @ 1.910 just because of this. The main angle last season which I did really well on was to bet Under in circle matches almost every week with some exceptions. Their play style kind of makes up for a relatively high xg but low scoring matches and the play to be in delay a lot which is something because of the xg the bookies never really adjusted. This seems to be the same at the start of this season with the line set at over/under 3. I just continue to take the Cercle Brugge Under bets and took 0.4 units on
Under 3 @ 1.896 and also 0.1 unit on
1H Under 1.25 @ 1.873. The advantage of these under and underdog pre-game bets is that it's most of the time possible to get out of them if needed in-game. So I won't hesitate to take the over if I don't like what I see.
