European Football Thursday Previews

These are previews from matches involving Belgian Teams with all the latest on team news, player form, and injuries along with my personal betting angles, ...

I was too tempted on Tuesday to make a small "hero bet' on Tuesday which backfired at the end showing once more that I should just stay away in these situations. So I'm at -0.2 unit on the week so far this week but plenty of matches to go starting today with 4 European matches.

Ljublijana vs Cercle Brugge

Cercle Brugge (59M) will play their first match with their new head coach but overall there should not be a major change in style. So far they did well in Europe taking 7 points from 4 matches winning both their home games while taking just 1 point away. In one of those matches they fielded a near full B-Squad which doesn't seem to be the case tonight. In the league they have struggled because of having a heavy match load, overall lower quality compared to last season and luck not fully being on their side. They however despite everything are very much within range and I do expect them to get in a better streak at some point. Ljubljana (12M) is coming of a 2-1 away loss against Heidenheim but followed that up with 3 wins against LASK (39M), HJK (7M) , & Larne (4M). So overall not the most difficult opponents while Cercle did manage to keep Union at a 0-0 score with a good performance. I was willing to take 0.25 units on Cercle Brugge +0.5 @ 1.940 which seems a bit much based on the squad value difference, the coach change and form in their recent match along with the weaker opponents so far for Ljublijna. I do expect an A-Squad also for Cercle.

AA Gent vs Topola

AA Gent (74M) hasn't played great this season and took a lot more points than what they deserved which again happened this weekend with a 2-0 win over Stvv. They tend to start matches with a 15 minute study round and always give chances away while they are better at home compared to away. So far they managed to win their home matches both with a 1-goal margin against Molde (32M) and Omonia (18M) and lost their away matches. Today, they play against Topola (28M) who took 7 points in Europe so far from 4 matches including a recent 2-2 against st Gallen (27M) away. Given the fact that Gent still is on my list of teams to oppose, I was willing to take just 0.15 units on Backa Yopola @ 1.920. I also would not be surprised to see another early study round which made me take a trading position on 1H Under 1 @ 3.020

Union vs Nice

Union (79M) is now unbeaten in the last 9 matches and their form has picked up compared to the start of the season. Their main issue is still to score freely while their defense looks to be in place. They are now with 5 points in the Europe League standings and calculate to need 4 or 5 points in the 3 remaining matches against Nice (214M) / Braga (127M) / Rangers (80M). This season unlike last one where they played in Anderlecht where they did well, they play in the national station where there is a lot less atmosphere which seems to have an impact as they yet have to win one of those matches. Nice despite their Bigger team budget is only 2nd last in Europe with just 2 points in 5 matches and it looks like they will let the Europa League slide playing with a B-Squad to avoid injuries and such. This also explains the -0.75 line on the home team. I'm just staying away from this match. No Pre-Game Bets

Slavia Praha vs Anderlecht

Anderlecht (111M) will be without a couple key players as Stroeykens who was key the last couple of weeks also got injured aside from Sardella, Edorie, Hazard, Vertonghen who all would be A-Squad players while good options Degreef & Ashimeru are also not available. However, what they still have should be good enough quality still and there is an overall good vibe in the team. Over the weekend they took a slow start against Beerschot were they fell behind but were able after a good 2nd half to still win with a deserved 2-1 score. In Europe, they also have done quite well currently in 5th place with 3 wins and 2 draws which could have even been more. Slavia Praha (100M) is only 26th in the Europa League standings with 3 losses in a row against Fenerbahce (226M) / Frankfurt (279M) / Bilbao (338M) in each of those matches losing by just 1 goal difference. So I do expect Slavia to be the team with the initiative which is something that Anderlecht generally suits as they score most their goals on the counter or when they are already in the lead. I still don't fully trust the Anderlecht defense but I do see them having enough quality to score goals especially if they would get some space for counters. I took 0.190 units on Both To Score @ 2.160, 0.06 units on Anderlecht Team Total Over 0.5 @ 1.854, & 0.05 units on Slavia Win & BTS @ 3.920.
