Basketball, Breakfast, and College Football

The last few days have not been my typical weekend days. I have spent much of my time inside the house. Not exactly the way I wanted to spend it. I'm still going through this nagging cold, day 9! I really want to kick it and have been trying to do so by taking it easy on myself.

Friday I went to work for a half a day. I took the day off after my lunch hour. The plan was to go out of town to watch my son play in his season opener basketball game. I had planned to ride up with someone else. It's best I don't drive the 2 hour distance by myself. I was tired and still not feeling the best. Oh the taste of cough drops fills my mouth. The lungs a bit itchy and my throat a bit soar.

Anyways I texted a parent of one of my son's teammates to see if space is available to catch a ride. Unfortunately they were providing a ride to extended family. So I planned to take a nap to get some rest. I could have got a long 4 hour nap but I spent it restless as I coughed and hacked continuously which exhausted me even more.

I did not drive or catch a ride from someone else. Fornately their was a live feed provided for the game. So I was able to watch my son play. He absolutely crushed it with his play. Usually the first game of the year for him he has a lack luster game. Not the case this time and he got the monkey off his back as far as it goes for the first games of the season.

I have friend that is helping to edit that live feed and put clips together of him in one video. I plan on doing a separate post in a few days on his upcoming season. He has another game on Tuesday and that one is a home game so perhaps I combine those two games in one post. BTW he had one of the best games in the entire area that night and the team won. I can't wait to tell you about it. I'm so excited for his final highschool basketball season.

Saturday I decided to start the day with a breakfast. What you see is some scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, toast, and some pears. I decided to add mushrooms and melt some cheese on top of the scrambled eggs. I sliced up some potatoes and fried them. The pears were simple as they are out right out of the can 😂

I also decided to make some cinnamon rolls. A little sweet treat to enjoy with an already good breakfast. Super easy, I didn't make from scratch I opened a pre made roll of them and placed in a pie dish and baked them. The most I did was drizzle the frosting over the top.

Here is all of it before I dug in 😋 Everything was satisfying and it ended up being the most I ate for the rest of the day. It would have been nice to have some bacon or sausage but I didn't have any. I ate most of my plate and the cinnamon roll was the first to disappear. Afterwards I enjoyed one more cup of coffee while watching the news.

After cooking, eating breakfast, and enjoying one more cup of Joe it was time to do some dishes. While doing this I realized the kitchen as a whole needed some cleaning. I wasn't super eager to do this right away but I did get to it later in the afternoon in spurts 😊

Much of the rest of the day I spent watching College Football. A mixture of beat downs and close games. Very entertaining to watch what unfolded in the conference championships this weekend. Top ranked Georgia lost a close one to #8 ranked Alabama.

Prior to conference championships weekend the four teams slated to play for a national championship were Georgia, Michigan, Washington, and Florida State. With Alabama beating Georgia it opens the door for the playoff committee to decide which four teams to select.

It's a guarantee that both Michigan and Washington will get the #1 and #2 seed. So what about #3 and #4? I think these two spots are up for grabs between Florida State, Texas, and Alabama.

Florida State (13-0) an undefeated team is playing with a 3rd string Quarterback. An undefeated conference champion Power 5 team has never been left out playing in the College Football Playoffs. They didn't win by much over #15 Louisville just 16-6. My opinion is they would lose to the other two teams that are on the radar (Alabama & Texas). Certainly to Michigan and Washington.

Oh the Alabama (12-1) and Texas (12-1) discussion is interesting. They both played each other in week two. Texas won 34-24 on the road at Alabama. Texas lone loss came to Oklahoma (10-2) with a score of 34-30 at a neutral field (Dallas, TX). Oklahoma losses came to an unranked Kansas and a ranked Oklahoma State. Texas beat both of these teams. Does Alabama's win over #1 Georgia put them in the College Football playoffs?

I'll give you my top 4 and what I think the College Football committee will pick. I think the committee will put Michigan, Washington, Texas and Florida State in. We will find out in a few hours at Noon EST. My four are based on who I think are the best four teams so I go with Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama. I have to say this, "I absolutely do not like Alabama." My dislike goes back when Nick Saben abandoned my NFL team as a coach, Miami Dolphins. So no favorites and also my college team, Iowa took a beaten by the hands of Michigan yesterday. I will be on the Washington band wagon, go Huskies!! For those of you who follow College football who would you select as the four in?

Before I go, I did get to the cleaning the kitchen. I did during a few of the game's halftimes I watched. Counters and tables are cleaned of clutter now 😊 It was an accumulation of stuff over time. A bit embarrassing so I didn't take pictures, haha.

Take care, stay safe and enjoy the rest of the day. Until next time!

Sucks you’re not feeling well man, hopefully you get back to normal! It’s that time of year. Make sure to add some vitamin D to your diet to help kick it and fend off future ones!
