Cricket: Bangladesh Creates History with 2-0 Whitewash Against Pakistan
Hello Friends,
Cricket is a funny game is what many say and time and again, it has been proved right. Well, I am talking about the recently concluded Bangladesh vs Pakistan Cricket Test series, where Bangladesh visited the Pakistan.
9 out of 10 times, people will say Pakistan will win against Bangladesh considering the home advantage Pakistan had and also considering the recent form of Bangladesh across formats.
But Bangladesh rose to the occasion and swept away the series 2-0 after being declared First Innings by Pakistan in First test and also after being 6 down for 26 odd runs in Second test, Bangladesh somehow found the players who could forget those setbacks and create a positive effect on the team by few good partnerships.
Old horse, Mushfiqur Rahim was the main architect of the win in First test with his patient and classy 191 in First innings after Pakistan felt 448 would be good enough and declared eventhough they still had 6 wickets and Mohammad Rizwan was going strong with 171 not out.
Pakistan might have thought 448 is a good score considering the recent form of Bangladesh and also the lack of runs for experienced players.
But, Mushfiqur along with ever improving Litton Das and allrounder Mehidy Hassn Miraz, ensured Bangladesh not only cross that Pakistan's score, but also take sizeable lead over 100 runs.
Mehidy is fast approaching the current First choice allrounder Shakib Al Hasan and may over take him soon with his regular contributions with bat and ball.
The First test's win for Bangladesh was their First win against Pakistan in the 9 tests they played.
Bangladesh didn't have to wait much to win their Second test against Pakistan as they got that opportunity in the next immediate One as they won the Second test with even more comfort although they had few scary moments when they lost 6 quick wickets in the First innings for 20 odd runs.
But the reliable Litton Das and Mehidi Hasan Miraz once again came to their rescue to lift them from early setback and ensure Pakistan doesn't get huge lead.
In the end, Bangladesh finished their First innings just 12 runs short of Pakistan's First innings score with 262 runs scored by Bangladesh.
More than half of those 262 runs were scored by Litton Das, who time and again proved, he is not just a wicket keeper but he can score important runs for Bangladesh.
Litton Das's score of 138alng with contributions from Mehidy Hasan kept Bangldesh in the huntand eventually, they won the test with Pakistan folding out early in Second innings with just 172 runs all out.
Mehidy Has Miraz has to be the main contributor along with Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das as he was able to contribute both with bat and ball and even had a 5 wicket haul in the Second test's First innings and has been a regular now in this Bangladesh team.
He had that vital partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim in First test and was again played a good ally to Litton Das in the Second test in that partnership of 160+ which was a crucial One to get closer to Pakistan's First innings total of 272.
All in all, it was a series to remember for Bangladesh as it was just their Second away series win (apart from the 2-0 victory against West Indies and barring the One test win against Zimbabwe).
For Pakistan, it was a wakeup call as they haven't lost many series in Pakistan and this whitewash against Bangladesh will hurt them.
Pakistan had their chances in both the tests, but couldn't capitalize on those.
They rested Shaheen Afridi for the Second test to bolster their spin department after the all pace attack in First test failed to win them the test.
But, second test was even worse with regards to bowling and they missed the trick to take lead after pegging Bangladesh batter to 26 for 6, but couldn't close the innings soon after that allowed the opponents to go on par with their First innings score.
It's not just bowlers, but batters too have to be blamed as almost all of their batters had starts, but didn't score big or didn't have many partnerships.
I would like to conclude this by hoping that, Bangladesh will grow in confidence after this series and we hope to see the true lions like they were before.
There are talks of Tamim Iqbal coming back out of retirement and that means, they will have a good opening batsman which will strengthen them further.
Until the next One, take care and be blogging guys :) I hope you find this blog informative.
Thanks and Have a good day :)
