Hablar de merecer en este deporte tan apasionante es tan ambiguo y absurdo que no puede ser ni si quiera algo a considerar, hay equipos que juegan mejor que otros pero eso no siempre les otorga la victoria, tal fue el caso del partido que acaba de terminar entre Nueva Zelanda y Costa Rica, un encuentro que tendría como resultado el pasaje del último equipo que va a formar parte de las 32 selecciones que disputaran el mundial de Qatar a finales del presente año. Un duelo que hizo honor al título del post, el cual vamos a analizar a continuación.

¿Cómo estuvo el partido? / How was the match?

Si observamos las estadísticas nos podemos hacer una idea del dominio ejercido por el equipo neozelandés, tanto la posesión como los disparos al arco les fue favorable, durante todo el encuentro fueron muy superiores, en el primer tiempo demostraron que tenían todo lo necesario para obtener la victoria, desafortunadamente no pudieron marcar, a diferencia de los ticos que en la primera aproximación que tuvieron anotaron el gol que les daría la clasificación.

Realmente fue una sorpresa ver ambos desempeños, Costa Rica se dedicó a resistir más que a cualquier otra cosa, la mayor parte del encuentro se la pasaron corriendo detrás del balón, no fue sino hasta la segunda mitad que el ingreso del legendario Bryan Ruiz les diera algo de equilibrio en la mitad de la cancha, pero esto duro tan solo unos 15 a 20 minutos, ni siquiera su buen manejo del balón pudo detener el ímpetu de los oceánicos. La impresión que deja Costa Rica a pesar de su victoria es bastante pobre, con este rendimiento no le veo ninguna posibilidad ante oncenas como España y Alemania donde compartirá grupo, inclusive contra Japón tendrá que esforzarse mucho para conseguir una victoria en la máxima cita futbolística.

It was really a surprise to see both performances, Costa Rica was dedicated to resist more than anything else, most of the game was spent running after the ball, it was not until the second half that the entry of the legendary Bryan Ruiz gave them some balance in the middle of the field, but this lasted only about 15 to 20 minutes, not even his good ball handling could stop the momentum of the Oceanians. The impression that Costa Rica leaves despite their victory is quite poor, with this performance I do not see any chance against teams like Spain and Germany where they will share the group, even against Japan they will have to work hard to get a victory in the highest soccer event.

Ahora bien, retomando el desenlace del partido, el punto crucial y clave fue la expulsión de Barbarouses en el minuto 69, el delantero neozelandés cometió una falta bastante imprudente, la cual luego de ser revisada a través del VAR no le dejo más opción que salir de la cancha, pues sería expulsado sin ninguna consideración. A partir de allí el panorama se volvió algo sombrío por momentos, los ticos estuvieron a punto de marcar el segundo gol, pero luego de unos minutos parecía volver el ánimo balcánico, y el dominio paso de nuevo a los de Nueva Zelanda a pesar de tener 10 jugadores en la cancha. Sin embargo esto no fue suficiente ya que no pudieron empatar y quedaron eliminados.

From that moment on, the outlook became a bit gloomy at times, the Ticos were about to score the second goal, but after a few minutes the Balkan spirit seemed to return, and the dominance passed back to the New Zealand team despite having 10 players on the field. However, this was not enough as they were unable to equalize and were eliminated.

Impresiones personales / Personal impressions

Luego de ver el encuentro puedo concluir en base al desempeño mostrado por ambas selecciones, que el nivel de los equipos está muy parejo, muchas de ellas no estarán presente en Qatar, pero dejaron un buen sabor de boca en las eliminatorias, aun así, pienso que de estas dos del dia de hoy mejor habría sido que clasificara Nueva Zelanda, pero lamentablemente no fue así, jugaron bien pero eso no fue suficiente. Costa Rica debe mejorar en todas sus líneas, y la renovación es algo sumamente necesario, pues hay algunos jugadores que ya se encuentran en sus últimos años como profesionales, y su performance actual no es suficiente para el ritmo del futbol mundial. Honestamente los veo como uno de los equipos más débiles que van a participar en esta copa del mundo, son comúnmente llamados “los mata gigantes” por lo conseguido en el 2014 contra Italia e Inglaterra, pero esos buenos tiempos han pasado, si quieren hacer un buen papel tienen mucho que mejorar.

After watching the match I can conclude based on the performance shown by both teams, that the level of the teams is very even, many of them will not be present in Qatar, but they left a good taste in the qualifiers, even so, I think that of these two today it would have been better for New Zealand to qualify, but unfortunately it was not so, they played well but that was not enough. Costa Rica must improve in all its lines, and the renewal is something extremely necessary, because there are some players who are already in their last years as professionals, and their current performance is not enough for the pace of world soccer. Honestly I see them as one of the weakest teams that will participate in this world cup, they are commonly called "the giant killers" for what they achieved in 2014 against Italy and England, but those good times are over, if they want to make a good role they have a lot to improve.

Por otro lado y para concluir, me gustó mucho la intensidad que mostro Nueva Zelanda, tiene muchos jugadores jóvenes que pueden tener un gran desarrollo como profesionales, su juego es bastante ofensivo y su capacidad atlética impresionante, eso sin duda es un punto a destacar. Esta vez no pudieron clasificar pero dentro de cuatro años posiblemente veamos a esta selección disputando el mundial, pues solo tienen que anotar goles para así ganar.

On the other hand and to conclude, I really liked the intensity that New Zealand showed, they have many young players who can have a great development as professionals, their game is quite offensive and their athletic ability is impressive, that is certainly a point to highlight. This time they could not qualify but in four years we may see this team playing in the World Cup, they only have to score goals to win.
