Basketball League and my Official Referee

Hello everyone! this is my weekend story.

A month ago our old friends came to visit us and told us that they will have a basketball league. They had requested my hubby to be the officiating referee. Preparations were made starting with the shirts and the official equipment for basketball. My husband was once an assistant Basketball coach when we were in Carmen Christian School. He was with Sir Ronnie Mata as the head coach and the two of them go even to CVRAA.

As an assistant coach

He started his referee career way back in college. Whenever there was a basketball league they would call him to be the referee. He did not refuse it cause it helps his allowance in school. He remembers that after every game they give him five pesos. And five pesos had value before, unlike today. He had a lot of experience being a basketball referee. When DepEd came he became the head coach which brought him to Dumaguete for CVRAA and met his former coach in Carmen.

Last Sunday the league started but directly to the game proper and no official opening. We arrived at the area earlier to set up everything. After minutes of preparation, some of the players arrived at the venue to have warm-ups. The game started at exactly 6 pm. He calls all the players and sets the rules so the game will end up well.

The First Game will be Talisay vs. Inayagan, From the start Talisay takes the lead until the end of the game for 20 pts lead.
The second game was the intense one Inoburan vs. Balirong. Both teams were eager to win, they were physical to one another. So my husband stopped the game for a while to cool down the players. Some players got angry with the referee whenever called for a foul. Inoburan wins the second game with a one-point lead. But for the third game, we went home because it was 9 p.m. and we had work tomorrow.

The head of the league handed him five hundred pesos as a token for two games. He came home happy as I handed him the money. He remembers how he started from five pesos to five hundred pesos. It was not that easy, being an official referee is a huge task to make the league smooth and peaceful, they monitor all the players' violations like fouls, traveling, etc.

We all know that Basketball game is a physical game and a lot of tempers burst out during the game because everyone aims for one goal, to Win. Some say if you want to know the person let him play basketball. But for me, I have my best referee who takes control whenever problems trouble us.

Thank you for taking the time to read and hope you enjoy it.

Wow it's really fun to see kids playing their favorite sport. I also love basketball but sad to say that since I was young my physical health will not allow me to play hard on that game. I am just happy to watch others play.
