Arsenal looking at another Gabby

Gabriel Barbosa has been in scintillating form of late making 60 appearances for Flamengo in Brazil and scoring 42 goals. He seems to be a bit of a late bloomer having had a bad time since leaving Brazil and enduring the first stint in Europe.

He was 20 back in 2016 when he joined Inter Milan to much fan fair, after a great showing at the Olympics the young Brazilian seemed to be set for a great career. However, in his 4 years in Milan, he only played 9 times and was constantly loaned out.

In January 2020, Barbosa decided to end his European dream and rejoined Flamengo after a successful loan spell. The club announced that he would sign a 4-year deal until 2024 worth €18.5m.

Now it seems his back on the European track with Arsenal keen to bring him to England

Why would Arsenal want him?

Gabigol made his first-team debut for former club Santos at the age of 16 quickly establishing himself as one of Brazil's biggest talents. The youngster then netted 56 goals for the Santastico over the next four seasons.

As I mentioned he had his ups and downs but the now 25-year-old has since improved in the final third, notching a whopping 98 goals in 139 games for the Mengao - including two goals in the 2019 Copa Libertadores final as his side defeated River Plate 2-1.

Gabigol as he referred to as, can play as a central striker or the right-wing, possessing a rare blend of speed, intelligent movement, and deadly finishing.

Considering Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is already 32-years-old and Folarin Balogun is only 20, Gabigol appears to be the perfect profile approaching his prime that can still learn from Aubameyang, as well as aid Balogun and Martinellis his development.

He should feel right at home with Brazilain compatriots Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes are both prominent members of Mikel Arteta's squad.
