Brazilian team arrives in Australia for the FIFA Women’s World Cup [EN/PT-BR]

Unlike the United States and Europe, where girls practice soccer at school, Brazil taught only volleyball, handball and women's basketball in schools. Although many girls also wanted to play soccer, the sport was restricted to men for many years.

Until recently, it could be said that a girl playing soccer was even frowned upon for practicing a sport considered only male. However, even without any incentive, the emergence of players who faced prejudice and taboo, made the athletes challenge the hegemony of men's soccer in the country.

In the first women's soccer World Cup, Brazil barely knew Meg, Elane, Fanta, Pretinha, Roseli, Cenira and Márcia Taffarel. The history of Brazilian women's football began there. In the World Cup and in the following Olympics, Formiga, from Bahia, would also arrive, who would play in seven World Cups and seven Olympic Games.

In the 2003 Pan American Games, the first title came. With Marta, Brazil was champion in Santo Domingo. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Atlanta, Cristiane joined the national team and Brazil won the silver medal.

In 2007, Brazil won gold at the Pan American Games in Rio and silver at the World Cup in China. The following year, came the second silver medal at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Brazil also won another silver medal at the Pan American Games in Guadalajara, in 2011, and another gold medal at the Pan American Games in Toronto, in 2015.

Marta was elected the best player in the world by FIFA in 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2018, an impressive feat for the Alagoan who has become a world reference in the sport.

On July 24, Brazil debuts in the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand against the Panama team. On July 29, the confrontation will be with the French national team and, then, on August 2, the selection will face Jamaica in the first phase of the competition.

In the round of 16, the two best placed in the group of Brazil face the two best placed in the group of Germany, Colombia, South Korea and Morocco. It won't be an easy competition, but the Brazilian team has always put a lot of work into their opponents and this time will be no different.

Entre os dias 20 de julho e 20 de agosto, acontece a nona edição da Copa do Mundo de futebol feminino na Austrália e na Nova Zelândia. Apesar da tradição da seleção brasileira no esporte, a seleção feminina nunca venceu a competição e até pouco tempo atrás nem campeonato profissional tinha no país.

Ao contrário dos Estados Unidos e da Europa, onde as meninas praticam futebol na escola, o Brasil ensinava apenas vôlei, handebol e basquete feminino nas escolas. Apesar de muitas meninas também desejarem jogar futebol, o esporte ficou restrito à modalidade masculina durante muitos anos.

Até pouco tempo, dá para dizer que menina jogando futebol era até mal vista por praticar um esporte considerado apenas masculino. No entanto, mesmo sem incentivo algum, o surgimento de jogadoras que enfrentaram o preconceito e o tabu, fez com que as atletas desafiassem a hegemonia do futebol masculino no país.

Na primeira Copa do Mundo de futebol feminino, o Brasil mal conhecia Meg, Elane, Fanta, Pretinha, Roseli, Cenira e Márcia Taffarel. Começava ali a história do futebol feminino brasileiro. Na Copa do Mundo e na Olimpíada seguinte, chegaria também Formiga, baiana que jogaria sete mundiais e sete jogos olímpicos.

Nos jogos panamericanos de 2003, veio o primeiro título. Já com Marta, o Brasil foi campeão em Santo Domingo. Nas jogos olímpicos de 2004, em Atlanta, Cristiane se juntou à seleção e o Brasil conquistou a medalha de prata.

Em 2007, o Brasil foi ouro nos jogos panamericanos do Rio e prata na Copa do Mundo na China. No ano seguinte, veio a segunda medalha de prata nos jogos olímpicos de Pequim.

O Brasil ainda ganhou mais uma medalha de prata nos jogos panamericanos de Guadalajara, em 2011, e outra medalha de ouro nos jogos panamericanos de Toronto em 2015.

Marta foi eleita melhor jogadora do mundo pela FIFA em 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 e 2018, um feito impressionante para a alagoana que se tornou uma referência mundial no esporte.

No dia 24 de julho, o Brasil estreia na Copa do Mundo da Austrália e Nova Zelândia contra a seleção do Panamá. No dia 29 de julho o confronto será com a seleção francesa e, em seguida, no dia 2 de agosto, a seleção enfrenta a Jamaica na primeira fase da competição.

Nas oitavas-de-final, as duas melhores colocadas no grupo do Brasil enfrentam as duas melhores colocadas no grupo da Alemanha, Colômbia, Coreia do Sul e Marrocos. Não será uma competição fácil, mas a seleção brasileira sempre deu muito trabalha às adversárias e desta vez não será diferente.
