Adelong to Tumut via Wondalga ride : March 24 2025

Not the best night. West facing room was super hot with no a/c. Weird dreams including waking in a flat panic with somebody in the room - slept with door open as I was the only guest. Now I would have heard the steps on the stairs and the hall. Figure it was the ghost. One emergency visit to the loo too. Coffee shop in my digs was late opening - she was not quite ready for our crew - next door we went

Ride today is to head on the back road from Adelong toward Tumbarumba up heartbreak hill. Nice house tucked just above Adelong Creek- wonder how many times it has flooded

The start of the first climb - lovely smooth road surface and very few cars. 1km climb

The junction with the Rosewood Tumbarumba Road at Wondalga. Head left here to join Batlow Road

The junction with Tumut Batlow Road - going left. I have cycled this road the other way fully loaded

I went up that way last time - one of many hills to Batlow. Going left this time up this hill - a bit more than 1 km

Huge drop to the valley below - speeds were well over 60 kmh. Last time I stopped 4 times to make it over

West Gilmore Road

At the junction to cross over Gilmore Creek - a bit of local art - more than a bike on a harrow - a rail trail protest

The abandoned Batlow Tumut branch line. The farmers are protesting the creation of a rail trail. As it happens there are two quiet roads either side here - effort would be best spent doing the work on the tricky places for cycling - into Tumut and past the end of the roads in Batlow

Rejoined the Batlow Road - busy on the way back into town - lots of trucks

Ride done - good but very hot at the end.

Spot on the Tumut River for sundowners - nice way to end the day. Had dinner in the camp - BBQ
