Jugiong to Cootamundra Ride - hills and rain : March 21 2025

A shocking night ahead of day 1 tour. Wedding music went to 11 - drowned a lot by the traffic noise from Hume Highway which passes above the village. New sleeping mat is comfortable but crinkly noisy when one turns over. Traffic noise eased at 2 am and then the rain began. Gentle and did help to suffuse Traffic noise.

Plan was to pack up and drive car to motel to park and cycle back. My tour started there - heading to coffee in Jugiong. Was a slow start as there were a few bike problems to fix

Official ride start photo - me on the right with no bike. Ride is uphill fir the first 26 kms - a few downs but basically up. Overnight rain is hanging around

Up. Country is burned brown from the summer. Crops have been harvested - lots of sheep and cattle. Some fab big trees along the way

Rain is hanging mostly to the south and we are riding north west - makes for a cool enough day with little wind

Turn off the Harden road heading to Cootamundra on Rosehill Rd.

Fabulous farmhouse at the head of the valley

Two riders heading down the welcome downhill to Rose Creek. Menacing cloud ahead - but one part of the climb is done

Certainly was a day for big cloud. Got most of the 2nd climb done - stopped on Rose View Rd for lunch break - did get hit with a passing shower. Rain jacket did the work - then rode on with jacket on for a while - rain eased and sun came out.

Nice panorama views over the creek flowing to the west - we have crossed the Great Dividing Range

Junction stop - we wait at each route change to make sure nobody makes a wrong turn

Great clouds - have a feeling this photo is shared by one of the other riders

Rolling country - big clouds and blue above

Arrive Cootamundra - building from the grand times - 1880s

Ride done - longest ride this year and a factor above on metres climbed

Showered up and headed into town for a look around - old Bank of New South Wales branch - now Westpac

Stopped for a beer in a pub ahead of dinner - not sure why the walls were covered in rugby league stuff from the Balmain Tigers - an old time Sydney club - now the West Tigers

Had a good dinner in a new Sri Lankan restaurant that is working with one of the farm to plate farmers. Food and service was good
