Lane Cove River meander - autumn mushrooms : March 6 2025

Another iffy forecast day. Was looking at maps to drove to the other side of the Lane Cove River from where I was the other day. Drive route was a big circle to get past the bends in the river. Decided to drive down to where I normally ride - forecast to rain - do not want to ride in that

New signage been installed since last visit

Lots of cryptostylis orchid leaves - no flowers left - and only a few seeded flowers

Saw the big mushroom from the other side first - then the little one hiding behind

Turned around at the Blackbutt hollow. Normally walk in from this side

Eucalyptus trees under stress do this - maybe too much rain

Walked back up the sealed road past Schwartz Cottage

Was hoping to find chiloglottis orchids. ID step is to find two leaves opposed on the ground - a bit like this. Two leaves - right shape - one opposite the other. Test - lift the leaves and see if they are attached by a runner

They are - not an orchid - more likely a weed

Back to the marker where I started to walk Great North Walk today. Walked a few slices this last 2 weeks

No orchids but a good walk - sweaty it was. Glad I was not cycling home

    Would be a lovely spot to stay for a few days - great paths and roads to rode and walk. Quiet when the people go home. Not sure it is open for use like that. NP are opening cottages up to generate revenues
