Midge orchids in Ku-ring Gai Chase NP : February 17 2025

Monday breaks - was hoping to do a train-bike thing. Train strikes making a mess of that. Easy enough to plan the trip out - cannot rely on the trip back if needed. Took the car to look for midge orchids

Starting out as a banksia day - old man banksia

Next up in banksia show - leaves are spiky

Old man banksia fluffed out a bit

Budding midge orchid - about the same spot as last year

Found one open lower down - brittle midge orchid

Brittle midge orchid - genoplesum baueri - an endangered orchid. Was a time this slice of bush had 10 to 15 plants - two today

Rupp's midge orchid right in the middle of the track. Note the grains of sand gathered as it pushed its way out of the ground - not rained a few days to wash the grains off

Found the midge I saw budding last time - now open - my track marker helped. As I thought last time - corunastylis ruppii

Next in the banksia stages flowering - spiky leaves

Tiny bell flower - normally these run in a long spike - not a cluster

Rupp's midge orchid - so good to find several spots

Fringed midge orchid down Kalkari Trail - a cluster of 6 plants

A few hibbertia flowering

Rupp's midge orchid - corunastylis ruppii

NSW coral heath flower - was hoping to catch bugs- none

Mimosa flower - a good walk - 4 midge orchids found. Not humid.
