Endangered midge orchids widening their home base : February 11 2025

Grey day - slept better - the cold has passed by. Headed out ahead of forecast rain to check for midge orchids in Ku-ring Gai Wildflower Garden

There is a short loop walk from the visitor centre called Senses Walk - always some delight - narrow leafed hemigenia

NSW coral heath flower

Popped down to get the photo of the pea flower

And this moth popped out and settled on a leaf close by

Lobelia in a few spots - it is tiny - not convinced on ID - not really toothy

Spider time - a good inch or more across

Fab textures on this mushroom

Seeded hyacinth orchid - dipodium variegatum

More ID opportunity

Eucalyptus moulting time up at the back fence - nice spot for a house

Mission accomplished - first brittle midge orchid of the season. Its journey has been disrupted by its spike getting bent by fallen debris (or the leaf blower man)

Did find one around the bend - standing 2 inches above the ground and lots of flowers. Genoplesum baueri is endangered with only 13 known sites. Kind of bothersome to find just two plants.

Had a good look at the way water would flow - from that plant across the park and onto a small run off the other side - just maybe

Hibbertia flower - always something to see on stops

Did find plants in that flow zone - 5 more plants - photos were mediocre. The flowers are tiny - maybe 8 mm wide

One plant lower down just shaping up. Next year there will be a few more further along away from where people walk and from the blower man.

The drop down to Mueller Track

Some days things just come along. Yesterday my friend was struggling to photograph these tiny ferns forming. Tidy was my chance - they are tiny.

More yellow - no idea on ID - not a daisy

Flowers emerging - also no ID clue

Time to move on to check chiloglottis orchids in Garigal NP. Did have to stop at service station to top up air in a soft back tyre. Not a good sign

Purple fan flower on next part of the walking

Epacris longiflora always to be found on this track

Pine-leafed geebung against the track backdrop. This shows the recent track work

Context sign photo also shows the track work - lots of new material laid on track edges - no orchids to be found

Banksia longifolia flowering starts. Clue in the name - long leaves - longifolia

Headed home. Then walked to post office to get an ID verification done - one way to get lots of steps. Walk two places and then do chores

Dinner: Cheat Peking Duck with pancakes. Chop the.spring onion and cucumber. Steam the pancakes. Duck is a microwave cheat. Simple food for $10 for two

Late night putting stuff out for Council Clean-up. Carpet from before our time is gone

That food for $10 is not bad
It is worth it and it looks delicious
