Lyrebird Gully walk - friend or foe : January 29 2025

A big shout out to the combo of my ISP, the National Broadband Network and Fitbit and Actifit for pissing away an hour's updating. Been a shit of a day at a tough funeral anyway.

Back to what I wanted to say - cut short. Steaming up for a hot day. Plan was to get out early - did not happen. Did investing stuff instead

Got on the train to walk Berowra Valley NP in the pursuit of chiloglottis orchids. Track down Lyrebird Gully runs from main road past the house onto Great North Walk. Flowers up top is a guessing game - native or garden escapee - this one is native - no commentary from here

Sydney boronia - did find a few more deep in the bush

Into bush proper - bonnet orchid leaves - saw one seeded plant

Orchid of the day - slender hyacinth orchid

A few big golden skinks seen - going down and.coming.back up in the same places

Route map - gives an idea for a walk in cooler times - start the way I started and walk to next station up. 4km walk with a bit of hill work to get back up from the creek. Train home from there

Temps were doen but it was a shirt off walk back up the track - sat at the rest area a while to stop sweating

Did hear the lyrebird on the way up but could not see it - sculpture will do. Have seen it before

Station wait - more cool down time. Poured with rain between there and home station. Interesting experience in the train - leech crawls out of my boot. What to do? Thought ti drop it out train door at next station. Jammed it and hankie into my water bottle - deal with it at home - yuk
