Scribbly gums and a few orchids along Warrimoo Track, St Ives : January 14 2025
A steamy day forecast. Got in the car mid morning to walk a St Ives track hoping to find midge orchids. Had ideas to walk two tracks. It was hot and humid
A grand tree day it was turning out to be
New environmentally sensitive site signs at the start of Warrimoo Track - just one side
Back to the tree theme
Yellow flower day - hibbertia
Stopped at this tree for a photo - fits the theme
And around the other side of said tree is a snake orchid - cymbidium suave. No flower seeds - does not surprise me as the plant survived a hazard reduction burn last season. Good news is the plant looks good and there was one a little further down the trunk
More yellow - goodenia
Trail drops down to the creek - makes for good photo opportunities. Note the pebble dash they laid - makes it super slippery
Looking north to Turramurra side - this was a bonnet orchid site - none
Found flowering hyacinth orchid on the criss track that goes under the powerlines
Close ups - slender hyacinth orchid. Lesson here - make better effort in photos of the orchid of the day
View along the creek - an interesting mix of rainforest and dry forest
Across the creek and the powerlines.
Lobelia dentata cluster in the section burned last year. They come out after fire - at least 12 months ago and here they are
Cicadas were active - a few husk photos - little
And large. Can just see the spilt in the middle of the abdomen that the growing creature climbed out
Saw this flash of gold - a beetle carapace. Did flick it over - it is one of a pair makes the beetle quite big
Orb weaver spider. Normally they spin the meal into a web but this time it is just sucking the livelihood out - no weaving today
Decided not to do the 2nd walk. Was just too hot and sweaty. Headed home to cool down.
Couldn't do any of my own work - wife's son back early from work.
Dinner: Had to step in to cook dinner as the promised event did not happen. Chicken cashew stir fry done Chinese style
Trade action: a few adjustments on sold puts

You have focused on many species of trees here, some of the trees are rotting. I have never seen the big insect in my real life. Amazing photography
First tree is really nice, must be very old... And if you can keep orchids alive you are green skilled 😅
