Christmas Eve Walk to Richmond Park, Gordon : December 24 2024
The road into Christmas got a little harder as each hour went by. The plan had been a visit from my wife's grandson with one or other of the parents. The good thing is we did suspend ideas of cooking lunch. I got busy writing the investing blog post and reviewing an Internet Marketing product from a friend. Did get the message saying no visit - illness
Went out for a late afternoon walk to revisit Richmond Park - remnant Sydney ironbark forest hoping to find a few orchids.
Warm day had me walking up the shady side of the access street. Offers a chance to photograph a few different houses. The street is on a modest slope coming down to the road which allows for a single story house. Brickwork tells me this house is younger than many in the street
Small stairway to the front door leading to a single storey house behind - note the fake fascia boards - very popular in the 50s
Seems a weird thing to photograph. My wife is a Libran - things have to be in balance. The door is not square in its frame or the frame is skew. Observe the levels of the floor and the bottom of the door
Photo over the fence of the house on the criss street. Similar in style and also single storey.
Why the focus on single storey houses? Almost all the houses on the low side of the road have been renovated to double storey.
Access path down into the park with nice stair work and the sound of birds above in the canopy.
Heard tapping noise from above. Makes for a different photo into the canopy. The trees are 50 metres plus high
Found orchid leaves before the creek. Fir some reason there are none on this slope in. Finding a few leaves says to keep looking. Bonnet orchid leaves
Bonnet orchids finished flowering not far off
Not a lot flowering here in the rainforest. I am told this is a native flower. What I do know is they spread like wildfire wherever they grow. Long runners form and where the nodes touch the ground roots form
Did find one orchid open. Bonnet orchid - cryptostylis erecta. Became my Xmas card photo.
The walk was a good way for me to unscramble my head. We are both struggling with family stuff this Christmas. But we do have each other.
The Santa photo uo top was seen on the way back home. Was wished a Merry Christmas on the way back too - from a quarter I was not expecting
Had a friend come over for a drink. Turned into snacks. Turned into dinner. Was a good way to get all 3 of us through tough homes. Bbq some lamb cutlets and chicken sausages - nice outside.
