Terrey Hills orchids - Ku-ring Gai Chase NP : December 12 2024
Got a different day lined up. Chose to skip a Christmas lunch - dull menu and my wife had her work party. Will meet the protagonists later. Drove down to Terrey Hills side of Ku-ring Gai Chase NP. During covid was going this weekly as my preferred shopping centre was down the road
NSW coral heath flower - a few still going
Tiny in yellow - thinking goodenia
Bonnet orchid where the track meets the fire trail. New find here but last year there was a hyacinth orchid hard by
Mimosa flower forming - reminds me of South Africa - heaps of these
Cicada husk
This tiny pink flower is a photo challenge. Each flower is smaller than a US penny
Conesticks flower
Purple fan flower
Two tone flower show - NSW coral heath flower and purple fan flower
Eucalyptus bark shedding season
This cicada was trapped upside down on the track - turned it over - good chance it could fly off
Leaf curling spider - the legs are in there somewhere. They hide when humans arrive
Patersonia iris low down
Budding hyacinth orchid with a few days to opening
Hibbertia fully open
Open hyacinth orchid
Close up - dipodium variegatum
A bit more side on
Heart graffiti on track side
Three headed cornsticks flowers - normally only one
Pea flower
Two cryptosrylis orchid leaves - front and back good green
The marching flower - cryptostylis subulata
Bonnet orchids over the track
Hard up on the edge of the track
Working hard on photos of the blotched hyacinth orchid - a hard subject without photo stacking
Pink spider grevillea
White hakea
Testng out side-on photo of dipodium variegatum
Stopped for a nature break - saw this tongue orchid off track
Light in the right pace to get underside photo of the veins - cryptostylis subulata
Found this orchid on the way back to track. Bottom flower has seeded - hard to say what Is going on above. Tought to decide on ID given timing. Going to guess it is late flowering bearded orchid - calochilus gracimilus. If it is - first sighting here
Caught the train and Metro into city to meet up with friends. Photo from the new Gadigal Station on the way home
Dinner action: Pizza - fab after a few drinks
