Garden and wild orchids in Gordon : December 6 2024

Steaming day with very high humidity - yuk. Was not on top of things to get out before it got too steamy. Decided to walk to the bush rather than do the ride-walk thing

Mission was to find hyacinth orchids open on Blackbutt Creek - one open in full flower

Dipodium variegatum. There were 4 open in this segment and 4 nailed with fungal droop.

A few bonnet orchids open - proving to be a tough photo subject if the light is not in the right spot

Somehow they find spots to seed just on the edges of the rocks. Do not need much soil to seed. Next year becomes a challenge as the tubers look for places to spread to

Did find a few tongue orchids - cryptostylis subulata - even harder photo work in the bright light

Back to the theme of a rocky place to take root - hyacinth orchids on the uphill side of the track - one of 4 flowers open with 2 suffering fungal droop

Sure was a steamy walk

We went across to visit my wife's son for his birthday. Plannhad been to go to a park BUT the rain came. Went to their apartment. My wife put together a simple picnic. We had a lovely time playing on the floor, snacking, hiding the car.
