Hyacinth orchids and the colour purple : December 3 2024

Steaming up for a hot day. Roof work continued on the house below. The noise and the humidity is really getting to me. Would rather be living by the sea - less humid

Went in the car to walk Ku-ring Gai Chase NP looking for a specific endangered orchid. Good start was finding this blotched hyacinth orchid on the small access path to the main track

Tis the season for bark dropping on the scribbly gums - makes some neat colour contrasts

Spiders are busy early - maybe they know something - St Andrews Cross spider

Bush was alive to the sound of cicadas - this husk shows how they can make so much noise rubbing their back legs. They have solid claws to hold on up front

Next orchid up - large tongue orchid - cryptostylis subulata

Spied this white caterpillar - it has chomped the top of the leaf it is on

Walked the road back - found a few tongue orchids on the roadside = new spots

Was super hot. Glad I had a change of shirt for the drive home.

Dinner: Beef and black bean sauce # a Ken Hom recipe

Saute sliced onion, chopped garlic and capsicum

Toss in sliced asparagus (or green beans) and browned beef

Toss in the black bean sauce with a bit of hot water. Stir through and serve with rice. Do not be tempted to add salt anywhere - black beans are salty enough
