Garigal NP for rose hyacinth orchids : November 25 2024
The days are starting to warm up. Took a while to get moving. A bit warm to get out on the bike to ride hills to go orchid hunting. Took the easy way out and drove - picked a track not walked for a while looking for two hyacinth orchids. Parked in a different spot to access the fire trail
So the tongue orchids found are in a new spot for me
The photo challenge is to get focus on the veined underside of cryptostylis subulata - flower is narrow and hard to focus
Last time I was here the track was closed. Always bothers me when they do this work - orchids on the edges get smashed
This likes a major work - they left the gear here and locked it up
Cicada sound was high - all bigger than this husk
Bonnet orchids on a side track - knew the spot
Better light angles for this veins photo
Was not expecting to see the twining glycine
Mimosa flowering
Context photo in Garigal NP
Lots of bonnet orchids but very few in good light spots
Did find the rose hyacinth orchid spot - these two have lost their tops. Going to suggest these were picked judging by the break pattern
Budding hyacinth orchid - probably not rose
Did find one flowering way below the track in a known spot
Dipodium roseum
Took some care to get down for the photo
Goodenia
Blue balls for Christmas - seeded dyanella
Track junction work wiped out the hyacinth orchids on the corner
Trigger flower getting ready
A bit of fun with the geebung flowers - was windy and a struggle to get focus
Less flapping leaves made easier work
Broad leafed geebung
Grey spider grevillea
Hakea flowering
Bonnet orchid in broad daylight - cryptostylis erecta
Two in one photo - front view and veined underside of tongue orchid
Did get a butterfly to pose. They are full energy flitting here and there
Mini yellow flowers like a trumpet
Trigger flowers open make a tough photo subject
Spider web looks like a net
Stepped back approach for trigger flowers may be the key
Pale flax lily - two flowers together makes it easy for the camera
Now this is the tough photo challenge - Christmas bells. Chose two modes - focus on the front one
Focus on the back one - you decide or crop the best
Purple fan flower in the sun
Starburst - my name
A cluster of tongue orchids close to the car park - another two in one photo
Sure is a good season for tongue orchids unlike any I have seen
Good walk - did not find variegated hyacinth orchids - one hit by fungal droop.
Dinner: Fried rice
Trade action: Switched DML.TO to DNN. Bought HAL, CBK.DE, RTO.L plus a few
