Budding hyacinth orchids on Seven Mile Beach NP : November 9 2024

Was a late night - awake when US markets opened. Early am for me. Always makes for a slow day. My wife was out early. Did get out on the bike in the afternoon. I do love being able to jump on the bike to make a safe ride with no traffic

Stopped at a spot where hyacinth orchid is growing next to the road. Right here was this flash of pink

Roadside hyacinth orchid - seen it here a few years now

Rode to centre of Seven Mile Beach access road and walked to the beach. Blue balls are the fruit from the dyanella - a fab deep colur only nature could make

A flash of blue. I amtold this is a native. Hope so as it is a mile from where the people live. Where we live, it is a weed

Was hoping to find a few hyacinth orchids open - no luck but did find some in new spots

Close up - dipodium variegatum

Structure and colour suggest this is different - roseum or punctatum

Heaps of native violets getting closer to the beach

On the beach - looking north to Gerroa

Looking south to Shoalhaven Heads

Walk back did show a nice colony of hyacinth orchids in a known spot. No sign of being chomped by caterpillars

Did walk a bit of the side track - hyoericum flower. Tough being a butterfly - not a lot flowering this week

Zoom in close - a weevil - the one with the proboscis and a rose beetle - the shiny one

Heard the call of the yellow tailed black cockatoo. A zoomed in photo is the best I could get. They do like roosting here

Ride out and walk done. A day for budding orchids. Bring on next time

Dinner: Chicken drumsticks in airfryer. Missed the crumbs - they help cooking to a crispy outer

The beach is very beautiful, In the first photo, the white flowers resemble women's ear ornaments. 12k steps count today, good job
