Bugs from Seven Mile Beach NP : October 7 2024

Had in my mind to head into Kiama when my wife was going up to meet a friend and then plan a bike ride from there. Late night watching lawyer shows on TV and a grey morning and a busy holiday weekend said NO. Ride local.

And that is what I did - ride up to Beach Road access to Seven Mile Beach NP - hoping to find one or two fingers orchids open. Not many native violets open now - found one open for the standard photo

This crimson rosella landed as I parked the bike - we had a chat - zoom photos are super dull

This bug flapped down and landed on a stem of grass below me. Did get the first photo in focus - can just see the edges of orange on its wings. Did work my way around to see the the full slate of orange. Camera would not focus and then it flew off

A few of these flowers emerging. Plant is a runner plant with leaves a bit like a wandering jew - no idea what it is

Found one native violet flowering

The walk became a bit about the trees - this one is quite young and the climbing fern is finding its way to light

These have a specific character apart from thick red bark - they grow to 20 metres tall and then tend to spread out - maybe the high trunks get nailed by the wind

Another - straight up for 10 metres - then a split trunk and then flattenning out

Into the canopy

Maybe a day for bugs - brown and cream moth

This butterfly floated over my shoulder and landed in front and then posed for the photo. Going to guess it struggles ti flying a straight line with that wing damage

Not a lot of mushroom action on these ride-walks - two on a fallen branch

Chose to walk only the south sand track side. Was just keen to cycle back home. Gets the kms for Great Cycle Challenge over 100 kms for week one - ahead of schedule

Dinner: Friend staying - a miscellany of meat for a BBQ.
